I've been saving up all of these new art supplies over the past few months so that I could share them with you in one long video! We'll look at some of the new Schmincke Horadam Naturals watercolours, their new Liquid Earths and tiny Retro Watercolour Palette, a 15-colour palette I've put together of Albrecht Durer watercolour pencils, Daniel Smith watercolour sticks, and also some Derwent Inktense and Tinted Charcoal pencils. I'll talk to you about layering mixed media materials and how I intend to use these new supplies.

I have just been working with the Schminke naturals and they are certainly more jelly like but are amazing for florals! Painting banksias they give such a natural looking structure to them! Green Slate and Rugen chalk are amazing for this textural finish. But yes totally different paints to their normal ranges. So happy you swatched these Natasha. 😊

9:56 Hello 👋🏼. Try mixing the Horadam Naturals with water on a palette first, they will behave more like watercolours. They do not have ox gall in them, so they will not flow like the Horadam watercolours. If you want more flow, buy natural ox gall or synthetic ox gall. I can’t remember who manufactures them, but Schmincke has natural ox gall and MaimeriBlu has synthetic ox gall.

Welcome! I haven’t tried it myself, but maybe I should. I have a pan of ox gall and the Caucasus earth. Edit: the Caucasus Earth will still be gloopy on the palette, but it will spread better on the paper. It wasn’t streaky on my Khadi paper.

Sodalite,a great colour, and as someone who loves mixed media too, so lovely to have this gift if a video from you. The Derwent Inktense were the very first artist quality material I ever purchased and they remain my absolute favourite, for me hey are the perfect pencil for mixed media because of how they dry which makes them great for layering. The tinted charcols are a great pemcil too. I recently got a full set of the watercolour sticks in all the colours, I won them in a competition I entred a while ago and totally forgot that I had entered. But they have such amazing potential for mixed media, because of the diffrent ways you can use them. Great to see you talk through your sketchbook and how you used the materials in them. It made me laugh when you just couldn't resist mixing with the Schmincke retro palette, sometimes you just have too with such lush new paints!. and I agree the tin es have an art deco look to it, Look forward to future videos with these new treasures as you work and experiment with them. Sodalite 🩶 (This is the only colour I have from DS watercolour sticks, but I use it pretty often. I cut off a piece and put it in an empty half pan. For me it's easier to use it this way.) Wonderful, interesting, inspiring video! The Sanguines are beautiful! All the water-soluble pencils are gorgeous! I would like to add more colours to my Inktense pencils (only have three: Bark, Oak and Iron Blue), Light Olive will be added for sure. I had recently tried mixed media, and found it liberating (maybe it's not the best word, sorry). It was a relief that I could add the details as precisely as I wanted using Neocolor II or a pencil. Thank you for the video! P.s.: I agree with Kriksis, the intro showing the studio was lovely, I stopped the video sometimes to look at the items.

53:36 There is actually one thing: may you please swatch the Daniel Smith Buff Titanium, the Schmincke Caucasus Earth, the Schmincke Rügen Chalk and the Schmincke Liquid Earth Chalk together? And may you mix them with earthy yellows such as siennas and ochres? And PY53 and PY216 (Turner’s Yellow by Schmincke or W&N) if you have these paints? I have the Caucasus Earth and I want to see how it compares to Buff Titanium. I bought it to use as a buff paint, but I think it’s a bit too green for that. I’m not surprised, PG23 is green earth. Mixing Caucasus Earth with yellow actually yields greenish yellows.

Great video, Natasha, as always! And Sodalite really is a lovely colour. 😉 I haven't yet tried Schmincke's Naturals (and probably won't for now, I've got much too much supplies to work with), but I've seen other people use them online, and it looks like they're best working on 100% cotton paper (they're supposed to lay down much smoother and less streaky on there). Maybe that's worth a try.

Love your supplies videos, always great quality products. Thank you. If you are wanting a nice mid to light brown in the Inktense line I would recommend "Bistre (179)" or "Saddle Brown (1740"). Also a dark green would be Iron Green (1310) and a really nice muted natural green is "Leaf Green (1600)" ." Iron Blue (840)" or" Deep Indigo (1100)" are both very moody dark blues you might like and finally one of my favs is a Derwent watercolour pencil (different from Inktense) it is a very dark grey/blue/black called "Ivory Black (67)" which is also great for sketching. BTW I love your work from your patrons sessions with Kriksis. Sodalite .

Sodalite😊! I was interested to see you using the Derwent Inktense pencils. I’ve had a huge set of them for years but have always found them too vivid for even me! I really must have another go, especially with the colours you’ve chosen here. Thanks Natasha for a lovely video. x

As always a lovely video - Sodalite! It's quite fun to use some water with the Derwent tinted charcoal pencils, I find it acts a lot like a watercolour pencil and activates the colour more. I would love to know which zoom drawing sessions you've enjoyed joining?

Saw another artist using the DS sticks by spraying the paper first, then using a wet stick. The colors really pop. Most don't like using them dry as they are a bit scratchy. The sodalite genuine is the first stick I ever tried.

Love the effects of the watercolour sticks! Sodalite!! Very interesting video. I've been riveted to my screen to see how each material works on the chosen paper...interesting that the brush strokes really stayed in the horadam naturals. I loved the "play" with mixing the traditional palette colours, as well as you taking time to make marks on top of others. Didn't mind the extra time one bit. Thank you, Natasha!
