I really like the pebble swatching over rectangles. It is weird how an organic shape changes the perception of how the paints perform. I love and own so many of these colors. I would also be interested in a video of your runner-up colors, as I know how many other dark, moody colors you have. The Rembrandt dusk pink and dusk yellow are gorgeous and I think I will get them both. Thanks for sharing, I always feel so much better after watching your videos. It’s like sharing with a friend who is far away.😘

Hello. :) It's very refreshing to hear that you're also the type of artist that's inspired by having a lot of colors. I tried having only warm and cool tone primaries plus a few convenience colors for years and found it ABSOLUTELY BORING and uninspiring and I never wanted to paint. Now I allow myself to buy whichever color I am inspired by and I am consistently creating art. It's liberating. I thoroughly enjoy all of these swatches and will look into purchasing a few for myself. Thank you!

I tell people I'm an artist, not a chemist, a carpenter, or crafter. I could care less about mixing colors, making paper, or building frames. That's just time away from painting. Plus trying to figure out how much paint I'm going to need or how to mix the exact same color again irritates the crap out of me. I have about 200 artist grade watercolors that I ADORE so I only mix colors if I absolutely have to, which I rarely have to do.

I'm more drawn to fairly bright colours, mostly blues, *cough*ulttramarine*cough*, cobalt teal, dioxazine violet. Not so long ago I'd have laughed if someone told me I'd watch someone swatch out a page of grey(ish) colours and love them, but your choices are so beautiful. It makes me immediately want the tundra pink, the lazurite (skies, but maybe also snow? or shadows on white), and the shadow violet. And I also love the pebble swatches, so much more beautiful that little squares or untidy squiggles...

Wonderful swatch style! I am a portrait artist mostly, I do appreciate landscapes and florals, but portraits are my main subject, so what I look for any color/palette or set is nice range of red and of course earth tones.… The more transparent, the better. I love the granulating colors to do the insides of the iris /eyes… And I just bought a new watercolor journal that has a binder style notebook with rings. Fantastic--thanks for posting, your pebble swatching method is cool, you could actually make small 5" x 7" paintings of several pebbles arranged with a simple background and use them for greeting cards. I'll be getting a number of these colors you've shown....of all the colors here my eye is drawn to the WN Payne's gray, partially for the deep blue shade but mostly because it granulated/separated differently than all the others. I just yesterday received the WN Cotman Payne's gray and am now hoping it performs in a similar manner. I'll do a pebble swatch later today and compare to yours. Have you tried any of the colors from Rockwell Art in Canada? I have their Magic Wizard which is a crazy color, so I ordered three more.

Gorgeous😍it’s nice that you swatched shire blue and forest blue next to each other as well as zoisite and perylene green, I thought those colours were similar but now I can tell how different they are. I bought Winsor& Newton's payne's gray based on your recommendation in another video and I love it, especially next to burnt orange, I also love their potter’s pink. I am most drawn to bright floral colours, hansa yellows, transparent orange, Quinacridones, ultramarine and phthalo blues as well as natural granulating greens and earth tones but in watercolour I am very tempted to collect all the red pigments, from coral to Venetian red, they just have the largest range of values and undertones and all look so different and appealing…and I just paused to count how many I have collected so far.. and I think I may have a problem 😳oh well not unlike most artists 😂

I can’t live without Indigo. I use Daler Rowney Artist’s version, but the Windsor & Newton is also gorgeous. I use it a lot instead of black, but it washes out to the most incredible inky blue. I use it for silhouettes, it gives more depth than black. Great video, very relaxing. 🤗
@waymire012 жыл бұрын
How are the Daler Rowney artist watercolors? Have you compared them to the Aquafine? I've been tempted to try the artist line but I have to import them and there are basically NO reviews/swatches out there.. which is so weird since they have been around forever. It's like nobody knows they exist.
@MoonSpinners2 жыл бұрын
@@waymire01 …I’ve been using Daler Rowney most of my life alongside Windsor & Newton, I suppose it depends where you live as to the availability of them, but I’m always very disappointed at the lack of attention this amazing company gets, considering it’s been going since 1783. I started with Aquafine, and I have to say, for a student quality paint, I find them superior to Windsor & Newton Cotman, and most other student grade paints. They’re highly pigmented, and a joy to use, but I switched to their Artist’s professional quality because I started selling my artwork and they’re superior quality along with lightfastness is what I needed. If you wanted to try them, I’d start with their Aquafine and see how you like them, It’s impossible not to be impressed with them and not think they’re professional quality. I hope I’ve helped. 🤗🇬🇧 The colours I’d recommend to start with would be Lemon Yellow, Cad Yellow Deep, Cadmium Red, Permanent Rose, Alizarin Crimson, Phthalo Blue, Indigo, Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna, and Burnt Umber.
@waymire012 жыл бұрын
@@MoonSpinners I agree completely, everything I have tried is great.. brushes, Aquafine, paper.. their Langton Prestige is just as good as Arches and the regular Langton is the best pulp I've ever used. Nobody in the US carries any of it except the Aquafine pan sets.. Blick has the tubes at a huge mark up. It's weird because it's not just that they are from the UK, the majority of popular brands are from Europe. I have no idea why it's just ignored.
@MoonSpinners2 жыл бұрын
@@waymire01 …you’re right, I love their paper, I’ve always used Langton, I’ve tried other brands, but always go back to Daler Rowney. Have you tried going on Jackson’s Art? I know they ship overseas, and they take great care with their packaging. I buy all my stuff from them. Maybe Daler Rowney just don’t invest enough in advertising their products abroad? It’s a mystery. If a few art “influencers” were to do a swatching video, I bet everyone would be clamouring for it! I’d do it myself if I had enough followers, but my videos are mostly of my cat 😂😂

@@MoonSpinners Yes Jacksons is my primary source for DR, unfortunately the shipping rates have increased so much from last year it's harder to justify it. I just placed a small order and had to go with post, which was the same price as DHL was for a larger order last fall, so I have to wait weeks for my stuff. DHL was over $25 for only a few small brushes (Jacksons is also the only place I know of to get ProArte and I really wanted to try some of their brushes recommended to me). They also seem to be having problems with stock for DR.. they are out of many basic colors with restock dates as much as six months out. I purchased two smaller pads of Aquafine paper from a UK distributor on Amazon to try, and I'm four weeks and counting, still haven't shown up.

Ooh Natasha! They are all so delicious! I have quite a few of these colours but am especially inspired by the Schmincke haze colours which I don’t have- And- I have finally gotten around to swatching the volcano and desert sets of supergranulation colours today and am really excited to try them out in a painting soon! Have a great weekend! 😊💜

Did you know that the DS paints with iron in them are magnetic? It makes sense of course, I just never thought about it. You can move the pigment particles with magnet. Luner blue and thier hemitite colors are some of them. I don't know about lunar violet. There are others. I just saw it on the DS KZbin channel yesterday

Hi Natasha. I was playing colour bingo watching this! A few I don't have and which look very interesting! I'm definitely going to add to my Schmincke super granulating collection! I've also started pushing myself to use more of my paints by writing them all on a little counter in a little bag and I just pick out 3 or 5 counters and have to use them in whatever I'm creating. Having so much fun with it! Great video, thank you Natasha 🥰 #natashasnewts

Those swatches are beautiful - only three or four of my favourites colours in there, but the dusk colours, shell pink and ocean grey are on my wish list. Have you ever tried the Derwent Graphitint pans? I got mine out while watching your video and they match the moody vibes of your palette! 🤍
