Welcome to a very relaxing and chatty 50-minute swatching session where I try the new watercolours from the March Art Haul for the first time, and chat to you about something that I and other KZbin creators are experiencing at the moment; dealing with a surge in online hate and negativity.
@louisebourne57792 жыл бұрын
Aww Natasha i’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing online hate/negativity this makes my blood boil why can’t people just be nice if they haven’t got anything nice to say or something they don’t agree with why comment or just simply not watch. You are only showing your supplies and how you use them in your art. I think some just like to make drama and its just not nice, i think this culture of hate has to stop.
@leslierobertson3852 жыл бұрын
I read a youtube comment one time that gave me an epiphany about art supplies. It said, "I've realized that buying art supplies and making art are actually two different hobbies". Since reading that comment I never felt guilty again! 😀 Not that I'm advocating hoarding supplies without using them, but rather appreciating that colours and pigments and textures can be a joy in and of themselves, separate from their use in a painting.

This is a fantastic way of looking at it! Thank you, Leslie.

I will admit, I spend more time organizing my things than using my things. I could mix and swatch colors all day long. I need to frame all of my swatch sheets and start referring to myself as an "abstract artist" ... Do you think anyone will buy it? Natasha could probably sell her pebble swatch pages.
@erikaleighart2 жыл бұрын
I think it’s really cool you have so many art supplies. And even cooler that you share the swatching - that’s something you don’t have to do. I get to sort of experience the different colors through your swatching without purchasing them myself, and it’s really fun. Your husband is exactly right with his analogy of a carpenter and supplies. I work at a hospital, and nobody ever says anything about the number of syringes or gauze packs we have. If anything, people are thankful we have such an abundance - how else could we provide patient care? Artists are in limited supply (if art was easy, everyone would be an artist!), and people who appreciate artists are thankful that artists have a variety of materials to express themselves and share their talents.

My dearest Natasha....if you didn't have so many supplies how would you be able to show us anything? I find your content seriously invaluable because you're saving me from wasting my money on something I know I wouldn't like or enjoy working with. I don't have a lot of money to spend on supplies and I do my research and read reviews and watch swatching on youtube to be sure that's the color or product I really want. Your content helps so many of us and I hope you will keep being you and keep doing your amazing videos. My favorite green is daniel smith serpentine genuine. It has lovely granulation and seperates pigments so nicely. I can't live without undersea green as well. We truly love you Natasha! ❤️

Aw! So cool to hear Dominick's voice! I'm glad you're setting boundaries regarding rude people's comments-it will help your sanity in the long run. Like you, I accept criticism on my blog if it's warranted, but you as the creator get the final say on what is constructive and what is time wasting grumbling from people who are directing their hurt/self-loathing at the wrong people. The anonymous nature of the internet has given people license to be more scathing and unhelpful, unfortunately.

Hi Natasha - I'm just at the start of my watercolour journey - and I'm sure you can imagine how tempted I am to buy more and more colours... Channels like yours are really helpful because they give me a preview of different paints before I get anywhere near an art shop - so then I can be a bit more organised and disciplined about it (well not really - temptation usually wins). So thank you for your experiments, and for sharing so much with us. Claire x

So sorry to hear about the negative comments Natasha 😢 You’re one of my fave KZbinrs and I always love how genuine, kind, passionate and creative you are in your videos. It would be weird if you didn’t have a collection of art supplies 🙈 Sending love and hugs!💖 xx

Thanks Joanna, that's really lovely! I really enjoy watching your channel too. :) For the first time in my life I can afford to experiment a bit more with art supplies (I was always on a pretty tight budget before, and even now I'll sometimes choose to go without other things so that I can buy art supplies!), and for some reason this triggers certain people. I don't know why, as I don't go around judging and policing other artists! It's strange behaviour, and that's only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the comments that I and other KZbinrs are receiving. I'm glad that people are starting to talk about it openly. Anyway, have a lovely week and thank you! xxx

What ever happened to “if you have nothing nice to say, don’t say anything?” People can be so crass and rude nowadays. As if they are entitled to be!! Love your color choices. I have something similar to that first grey in a Roman Szmal watercolor. Can’t remember the name of it off hand. I do love buying from Jacksons even though I’m in the US. They actually ship quicker than some of the local art shops.

I’m major in landscape architecture and most of the software in this industry is so much more expensive than a set of art supplies! And yet you would never accuse an architect for how many working software they have on their computer, don’t even mention how much it costs to have a well operating computer! Then why would someone accuse professional artists for their art supplies?! This makes no sense at all. I wish these kind comments in this video can make you feel a little better. We’re definitely with you. Maybe those who leave hate comments are just jealous. I think that’s very possible!

I follow all sorts of channels, art, wood turning, polymer clay, adult coloring, and yes even tarot readers. All experience attacks. It is difficult to ignore. Keep doing what you’re doing. Say things as you say them. Buy what you want to. Any financial questions about how they’re afforded is none of our business. I do believe some accounts are created just to spread discord. How sad is that! One truth is: their negativity is a reflection of their lives…not yours. I don’t even paint (I do adult coloring, when I make time for it), but I absolutely love your videos. Never stop being you!

Funnily enough, I just got undersea green last week! I wasn't too sure how I felt about it when I swatched it out, but using it in a piece - oh! It's truly stunning. I've just now seen this relatively older post (I am a newer follower so I have lots to go through). I really appreciate your purchases and the way you swatch and share with us. I am also new to watercolors so I have so much to learn about the paints. It's very different from acrylics, which is what I normally do. You've taught me much so far, and you've saved me a ton of money because I don't have to do all the experimenting myself. My acrylic paintings are focused on the interplay of light and shadow, so my palette is very different and extremely limited because I do my own mixing. I've really come to appreciate the muted colors you use and the pop of color you include. They are perfect for the nocturns I love to do. As for the trolls, I think they must be miserable people who are too cowardly to tell the people in their real lives how unhappy they are. They use the internet to strike out without any repercussions, which is something they can't do in real life.

Hi Natasha, try the Undersea Green wet on wet and just let it do it's thing. I love what happens when I add it to a deamp to wet-ish surface and then just leave it, not touch it anymore. It's so much fun when you come back and see what it did, it's different every time. 🤩

I get so much joy from your cozy and charming videos that there is no way I would tell you to stop buying more of anything!😘 That painting with the red colors is beautiful and I like that you pushed yourself to do something a bit different. As far as the trolls go, haters gonna hate. There is nothing you can do about it, but you can make the choice not to participate in it or give the haters any power. Their venom is aimed at you, but it isn’t really about you, so do what you have been doing - shut the comment door in their faces and then bask in the joy of your art and your art community who love you and value your work. Big hug😘💕

Natasha I just want to say I appreciate you sharing your swatches so much! We do have a similar aesthetic but there are also so many colors (and different products!) I would have never considered but I’ve happily discovered thanks to you. And I love that you take your viewers suggestions and share those colors/ items too. It’s a lovely collaboration and every thing good that a KZbin channel can be. So I agree with Dominic’s analogy and would add that I hope those few petty people won’t discourage future expressions of creative joy you’ve been sharing with us. I mean isn’t art at it’s core about love, expression and connecting? I think it is, so sharing your discoveries is just a lovely expression of that sentiment. So Natasha please DO NOT stop buying more watercolors:) Or any other supplies your unique creative eye is inspired by. I’m probably rewatching this video because I love hearing what paint you love and hearing your relaxing voice! Sorry to hear about ugly comments, so ridiculous! Just wanted to say thank you for the joy you bring to me and so many others! I too love to collect and play with art supplies, and it’s not my job even! We all should have hobbies and a passion for life. I love color and seeing paint flow with water and mixing colors is such a thrill. I appreciate hearing what colors others enjoy as well so it’s a fascinating thing! You asked what greens we would recommend, and my favs are D.S. Cascade Green, Green Apatite Genuine, Undersea Green, and Green Gold to add to wet landscape color! Just a small amount of GG into a painted area adds beautiful light! I also adore Schmincke Sap Green, Chromium Oxide green and Permanent Olive. These are my favorites for landscapes or interesting backgrounds.

Double thank you. I was looking for a dark blue and you have just shown me two of them: Schmincke Galaxy Black and Deep Sea Indigo. They are stunning. I guess there will be two paintings. 😱 Kind regards.

Love the chattiness. Love seeing all the news paints. As for the trolls. That's what they are. Sad little human beings. If buying paints make you happy - whether it's you job or not - then you should buy the paints. Changes nothing in their lives. As for my favourite green - at the moment I can't get enough of my pyrelene green. I love the painting! Natasha please don't buy more watercolours (but please do - it makes you and almost everyone of us happy!)

Hi there! I want to send you love and support! I love your channel! Also, I don’t have a favorite green, but my favorite kind of greens are the ones that go super dark but can be like a super bright mossy/yellow with water added 😍

Thank you, I really appreciate that Kyra. ♡ And I know just the kind of gorgeous green you mean!

Your videos are soothing, relaxing and joyful--they help center me and inspire me to create when I feel otherwise (if that made any sense lol). I think the kind of people who choose to leave rude comments are unhappy in their lives/with themselves (or what have you) and the thing that makes them feel better/pumps themselves up is to spread the negativity (misery loves company). I could be wrong, but that's the conclusion I've come up with people who do things like that. I just want to say thank you for sharing your art, time, and world (and supplies ❤️) with us, it's appreciated more than you can ever fathom ❤️❤️❤️

I really enjoy your swatching videos. I have always struggled with water colors, but watching you swatch yours has encouraged me to keep trying and maybe trying higher grade paints would help. I find doing color mixing exercises really relaxing so I can see how swatching paints would be too. I did watch all the way through the video!

Thank you, I'm so glad that you enjoy the videos. I would recommend trying a few higher grade paints if you can. It can make a big difference!

Thank you for deleting the trolls so we don’t have to suffer them too. That is very kind of you. Please try not to let them into your head and upset you; easier said than done I know. I enjoy your videos very much and especially find the new supplies ones helpful . It helps us decide which to get, or sometimes what isn’t going to work for us. And the way you do it is so relaxing and entertaining. So I’m really not going to ask you to get no more, am I? Keep up the good work.

Can you remind me where you got these gorgeous brushes? I remember you doing a review or just unboxing when you got them but for some reason am struggling to find the right video! They are so beautiful and I admire them in all of your swatching videos. Thank you for addressing the trolls, I had my first truly hateful/mean comment yesterday and just deleted it. I don't think it has any place on my channel, which is all about mutual support for artists having FUN with their art. No room for anyone to bring it down! Love you as always great video!!

You did the right thing with the negative comment (I'm so sorry that you received your first one though - it's a bit of a shock when the first one comes through). I think all of us artists who just want to inspire and have fun with art should band together and have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to these energy vampires. Sending love to you! ♡ Oh yes, and the Betty Hayways brushes came from the Chelsea Paper Company. I love them and use them all the time!

Maggie, when I watched this video I was thinking about you, what Natasha described reminded me a lot of that „person“ on your channel. A mean person with „Bee“ in her name also made a mean comment on my video a while ago, but now it is gone and seems like the account got deleted. The bee person I saw in your comments has a very fresh new account (coincidence 😜?) and I also saw them spreading negativitiy on a few other art channels. It‘s best to just ignore and delete, some people feed on upsetting and having any impact on someone else, if you don’t react at all it confuses them and eventually they will stop because nobody is playing their game. It‘s hard not to react especially when they hit a weak spot but it really is the best thing to do. More time for some art fun!!
@CreatingCuteArt2 жыл бұрын
@Moni DMajor that is exactly what I was wondering! She did have a different name before and was saying awful things about poor sweet Sandi Hester, one of my favorites. I'm glad we can all just write this person off because you're right, this is all about the person and not us if she is spreading negativity to a bunch of channels I love so much. I'm so sorry she targeted you, too, I'm glad you took the comment down!! Definitely time for more art fun!! 🤗😆🙌🤩😎

Ignore the haters how is one supposed to discover which mediums work best for them without sampling a number of different supplies. I understand feeling frustrated they maybe can’t afford to buy loads of stuff (me too!) but that’s why channels like yours are so helpful as it helps me see products before I buy them and I don’t buy as many things that go to waste anymore. ❤️

I’m all about that ocean blue! Natasha, I love your channel. Sometimes I’m not in the mood for a lot of banter but that doesn’t seem to be the case with your vids. I can honestly say I’ve made paint choices because of your swatching. I also wait to watch your videos when I have time to enjoy the banter. It’s a CHOICE. Misery loves company, I say ignore, delete and move on. I can see swatches on any channel, we are here because of you and your delivery. May you be blessed and elevated! Don’t buy more watercolors, NOT! 🙃

Green was one of my unfavorite colors until last year when we were driving to Mendocino through the lush green forest and I told my husband green must be God’s favorite color because there are so many different shades of green out there. I began appreciating green and now these shades of grey green and moody greens you share are helping even more.

I’m new to your channel and a fellow (hobby) artist and I dearly love watching art haul unboxing because I can live vicariously through you and dream of trying some of what looks interesting to me. It’s also how I learn of new products out on the market and how they look in real use. I have lots of certain art supplies that I’m not currently able to use and some I don’t have enough of but anyone would look at my supplies and think “my god what do you need all that for” . I had a friend who would constantly tell me I have too much stuff but then this was coming from someone who had absolutely no hobbies and if she couldn’t find someone to go visit or that would visit her she would be forlorn and complain about how bored she was. I NEVER get bored! There’s always something I want to do or explore or some hobby I want to engage in.

I agree, I am honestly NEVER bored! I think that creative people rarely are. :)

My favorite green is green earth! It makes me so happy and it has a dullness to it that makes me feel comfy because it’s soft and earthy. My second favorite is phthalo green blue and yellow shade for the opposite reason. I used to not like green that much but I’ve come to appreciate it. I also like PG17 with PG23. I understand that people say you don’t need a big palette or a lot of colors in a palette…but I like enjoying myself. I told myself that I shouldn’t care that much about what people like and more myself. I like digital and traditional art and want to learn both but people on both sides can be competitive and argumentative to weed people out but it’s annoying hearing it and wondering if I should do something or not. Anyway, I subscribed because I like your searching and I like how you talk with no music in the back and just swatch for a while. It doesn’t matter how long the video is to me, I enjoy it. Just enjoy yourself. People will come when you do.

I really love Schmincke horodam olive green and also M Graham Hookers green. These are deep greeny gorgeousness. There is also Art Spectrum Australian green gold. As for art supplies, I have a whole room in my house dedicated to creative pursuits. So there are never enough art supplies when your passions lead you.
