Nate Wiggins Too Small for The NFL

In today's video, I discuss Clemson University CB, Nate Wiggins. The Philadelphia Eagles need a young, developmental CB. However, if they don't trade forward in the 2024 NFL Draft, the options are good, but each has some very large concerns. Nate Wiggins concern is that he is too small to play in the NFL. Is that true? Is he another Emmanuel Forbes?

I will concur that Nate Wiggins size is an over stated concern. Sure he is slight of frame, but he was sick prior to the combine, and that’s not his playing weight. Although, I will point out, Sam Madison was only 5’11”, 180 lbs. In contrast, Nate Wiggins is 6’1”, 180ish when healthy. That’s not the same frame.

Definitely appreciate the breakdown. Wiggins is my favorite corner in this draft and I've been debating with so many of his detractors because they are scared off by his size. If the Eagles go corner...in my opinion he should be the guy.

Not a fan of Wiggins game in terms of fitting into Fangio’s specific scheme. Talented CB, just don’t know that he fits here. Gate, I’d love to get your thoughts on Elijah Jones and his skills and fit in our scheme. Looks to be a high level athlete, but needs work on his footwork and technique. Could be a sneaky good pick if they maybe trade into round 3 to get him. Eagles apparently snuck him in for a top 30.

The Young man is tough. He certainly wasn't scared to play his run fits. I think the question is how any rookie, no matter their size, how do they hold up over 17-21 games as oppossed to 12-14 games? That's a question that's difficult to answeer right now. I will say, I found out later that he plays at around 185 lbs. Apparently he got sick before the combine, and he lost like 10 lbs.

I concur that the noise around his size is being over stated. It’s a concern, for sure. However, it’s not an Emmanuel Forbes situation. Although, I got to point out, Greg Newsome is an inch shorter, and 10lbs heavier. That a different frame than Wiggins. To put this in layman terms, if someone is an inch shorter than you, but has 10lbs more of muscle than you, are your physiques the same? No. However, I get what you’re trying to say. The young man has aspirations of adding more weight to his frame.

@@CoolHandLukeDuke I just looked Wiggins said he was sick and lost weight at his Pro Day. He weighed in at 183 pounds there before running position drills. He said his goal weight is 192 which is plenty big enough and doable with his frame

Forbes was a way better Cornerback than Wiggins in college which is why he was the 2nd cornerback picked. Hopefully Wiggins ends up being a dog but it depends on the team that drafts him and scheme they have to make him successful .

Lightweight and short arms...to go with 4.28 (probably faster) speed and out of the gym hops. He's the ultimate boom or bust in this draft for me. My biggest concern is his *weight and tackling. We had enough issues there. *He was apparently sick before the combine and lost 10 lbs.

What's up Clark! He might not be as small as advertised. He spoke up and said his playing weight is around 185 lbs. Apparently, he was sick during the combine, and that illiness caused him to lose 10 lbs. On Sports radio down here in NC, he said that his plan is to work his way up to around 190lbs over the next year or two.

Why does everybody want to compare small players to Steve Smith Sr? 💀 Wiggins plays a different position and even if he struggled against the run, in the right scheme they can play him on the outside where he won’t have to be in many situations where he’s the one who has to make that tackle. There will never be another Steve Smith regardless of position and there’s definitely a place in the league for small players at all positions. He’s 6’2 btw which is great size for a CB, and at 185 he’s bound to put on atleast 5-10 pounds of muscle once he hits the NFL. 6’2 with 4.2 speed and great tape at a big school is a first round prospect in any draft.

Forbes is the best comparison to Wiggins because if Wiggins was drafted to Washington and was asked to guard all the #1 WR’s he would be in trouble. 100% depends on the team that drafts him! Chiefs or Eagles 👍🏾

What's up Westside Willie! He afforded himself pretty well in college. Now, we never really know how good those receivers or corners are until they make it to the league. With that said, on the 2023 season, he only had one game where he was credited with giving up more than 50 yards receiving, and it's been since November 12, 2022 that he gave up 100 yards plus. Those are good numbers for a corner that played one of the highest percentages of man coverage in this draft class. He wasn't necessarily hiding behind zone with safety help.

I actually really like Wiggins. I personally have him as my cb1 in this class. That being said, there is no elite cb prospect in this class.
