If I'm interpreting correctly, the basis for "Freak Out" comes from how Charlie sometimes has trouble expressing himself or articulating his thoughts in normal speech. (I'm not at all certain about this, but I thought he mentioned at one point that he might fall somewhere on the mild end of the autism spectrum? I may be wrong about this) Charlie has often said that he is most comfortable expressing himself through music, and that when things in the production come out *exactly* right, he reacts both verbally and physically in a way that other people might view as extreme - he literally "freaks out." But instead of it being something negative, like we usually use the phrase, it's happening "in a good way," because it means that he's really happy and excited about what's happening.

Yeah I believe he does have autism in some form. A while ago he was in a metal health awareness concert along with other singers. Before he went on to sing the song, he talked about the reason for the song and I believe he did say he has autism.
