The fact that Breakfast says "I watched this history movie called Godzilla vs. King Kong" and no one even acknowledged the absurdity of the joke he made makes me think everyone rolled with it because this is a comedy podcast or no one knew that it's not a historical movie, both of which would be on point for this podcast.

I was so excited to see the theme was World War II because I literally just finished reading Unbroken, Olympic runner Louis Zamperini's biography. I'm such a Nateland fan, I couldn't even get through the book without thinking of how Nate, Dusty, Aaron and Breakfast should totally read this book and help Nate learn things. Y'all dug into sports, specific athletes and never even mentioned the delinquent turned Olympic runner turned Army bombardier turned POW and war hero turned evangelist and humanitarian. Unbelievable! Love y'all! Looking forward to catching Dusty in Cincinnati this weekend!

One of my very favorite episodes thus far! The best part of the whole episode was at the end when you guys were discussing the Death Ray. Nate so confidently stated, "So then the Nazi's started fighting Germany". The look on Brian's face after Nate said that reminded me of a teacher trying to teach a class about a critical historical event and one of the students just completely missing the point and stating the exact opposite of what the teacher was trying to teach. I rewatched it at least a half dozen times! Someone please come do a show in Butte, America!!! It really is the greatest place on earth. (Dusty you are included in this invitation--since Nate made it quite clear you were NOT invited to Qatar)

Justin being loud made me cry/laugh so hard due to a crazy coincidence from last weekend. Me and my daughter went to Cape Girardeau to see Nate, and on the way there we saw a sign that said, homemade taffy and fudge at the next exit. I said (for some odd reason): “they gots lotsa taffy” to which my daughter replied “they gots lotsa fudge” but she said it with a frog in her throat and way way too loudly. We laughed so hard and then she said “I was trying to make fun of you” to which I said “you failed miserably” and we laughed again a stupid amount of time over that. Between that and an awkward moment I had with Mike Vecchione, I can say our weekend was SO FUN! Thanks guys for a great show and wonderful memories! Ps. I’d love a show on the Mandela effect. 😬

On the topic of containers and things that go in them… my dad is a design engineer so he designs machines that specialize in filling containers with things. My sister didn’t quite know what he does, so when she ran into one of my dad’s old friends and he asked what he was up to now, she told him “He’s doing good, he fills toothpaste tubes for a living now.” I can only imagine my dad just sitting in a corner trying to stuff toothpaste inside the tube and how sad his friend had to be for him. Side note, I was there at the first show at Blue Room for the Justin Smith taping and it was amazing and so is the final product!

So Justin hit on something I’ve thought quite a bit about: inserting the Promotion/Relegation system into college football. This is my proposal. The Power 5 conferences absorb the Group of 5 conferences (Mid American becomes part of the Big 10, Mountain West to PAC 10, etc.). Power 5 conferences are now the top tier of these super conferences. Group of 5 is now tier 2, Division I-AA (FCS) is now tier 3, and so on. This would create much more excitement to minor games because now you have teams fighting to maintain their place in their tier or to work their way up the ladder. So if this was in place, Tulane would be a part of the Premier Big 12 next year and Northeastern would drop to Secondary Big 10 (formerly known as MAC)…Discuss…

You know as a kid on the beach how you took your shovel and started digging the deepest hole you could? Some men held onto that idea as adults and used industrial sized methods to start digging the deepest hole possible. The most successful ones were the Soviets/Russians with the Kola superdeep borehole located at the very north of the border with Finland. They got to a depth below surface of 12 262 metres which is 40 230 feet for you guys. At that depth their recorded temperature was 180°C (356°F). To reach the middle point of the earth you have to go down to about 6 360 000 metres where they were digging, so they were 0,193% of the way there. The temperature they measured was far below average however. From all the research later we now know that you can assume an increase of about 30°C/km when digging into the litosphere which is just the upper layer of the mantle. At a specific spot it varies greatly depending by the thermal conductivity of the rock formation. For example in the US at a depth of 10km the temperatures go from 150°C up to 400°C. Also interesting is the highest depth where humans are operating on a daily basis. That's the Mponeng gold mine in South Africa. The deepest active mining tunnel is at a depth of 4km and the rocks reach a temperature over 65°C (150°F). They continuously pump a slurry of ice down into the mine to a cooling system to refrigerate the air and make it possible for humans to survive working so deep. And then sometimes a whole society of people decide to go live under the ground. In Turkey the largest city dug underground was Derinkuyu and could house 20 000 people and all their daily activities such as school, religion, industry, husbandry, ... They used ventilation shafts and the city went 85m (280ft) deep. It was inhabited mainly from 700BCE up to 1300CE and later was mostly only used when needing refuge by the people living there. Over time almost everyone forgot about those cities until someone who was renovating their house knocked down a wall and found the gigantic hidden city behind it.

The talk of Cracker Barrel servers and their attitudes reminds me of why I will never go to there again. A few years ago, I went to Cracker Barrel for breakfast and ordered a normal eggs and bacon breakfast and had water to drink. The server brought my water and eventually my meal and walked away. When I picked up the glass of water to drink from it, the bottom of the glass broke clean off and ice water spilled all over the table, my pants, and my eggs. When I got the server's attention to let her know what happened and show her the glass in two pieces, she said to me "Well, how did you pick it up?". Needless to say, I still had to pay for my eggs.

Hello, folks! Hey bear! I just wanted to say that both Bates and Justin were right in regard to why the Japanese Empire attacked Pearl Harbor. Here's a brief explanation: Japan had been modernizing its economy throughout the 20th century and wanted to build an empire of its own in the South Pacific. However, Japan lacked the natural resources to make it a reality, with all but 6% of its oil supply being imported. As Bates said, the US naval fleet in the Pacific was a threat to the expansion of their empire, but Japan was in a full-scale war with China in 1937. As a result, they had to look elsewhere for the resources they needed to fight. This is where Justin is right. America retaliated to Japan's aggression in the Pacific by freezing all Japanese assets in the states, preventing Japan from purchasing oil. Having lost 94% of its oil supply, Japan planned to take the oil needed by force and decided to attack the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, hoping that the U.S. navy would be destroyed and the US government would negotiate peace.
