actually, surfing waves in kayaks or even canoes is fun if you know what you are doing. Kayaking standing waves in rivers, in particular, is a great example of applied physics. Whether it’s in the ocean or on rivers, it’s a bunch of fun!

It's called playboating... kayaking and surfing go very well together. Depends on the boat. Thats a sea kayak now if you had a surf kayak would be loads of fun.

My 1st Kayak experience was in the ocean and instinctively knew this, my girlfriend at the time wasn't confident I'd be navigating us the right. In the end i had asked her am my worthy, and her response was "yes you are"

When the nose goes under, It’s called “Pearling,” as in going pearl-diving. When you get sideways to the wave, and it rolls you, it’s called “Broaching.” Those waves were too small. You need a larger wave, with a face. You tip straight over the edge, then turn to ride across the face, as it moves toward shore. To avoid broaching, I put the paddle flat on the surface, on the wrong side (?? ), as though turning down the face....the wave is pushing my stern down the face, so I am off-setting that. I pearled my 10’ kayak on a 12’ wave, and broke the aluminum paddle shaft in half across my cheek, as I went end-over.
