In many cases, captive experiences with exotic animals rely on abusive training or treatment. To learn more, you can read on here: on.natgeo.com/2Q3vhBT

Nat.Geo. Love your videos. It's a tough time for wildlife. Shrinking habitats from logging & farm's. Which is better for elephants? Living free for a few years on a reserve before a poacher gets you. Or, live in captivity working until you die? I know there are laws, but not all laws are enforced.

I don't think there's a more "ethical alternative" to this situation. The animals are still being kept in captivity and used for entertainment of tourists. We like to think we can "take care" of these animals, but in reality, we clearly can't. We just have to make sure these animals are safe from us. They were and will always be happily and perfectly fine in nature by themselves. It's us who meddled in the harmony of nature and destroyed their habitat

It's complex. Most of the elephants going throught situations like these, were born or grew in captivity: logging, entertainment business and other unnatural conditions. They never experimented life in the wild neither personal space. To give an example, elephants are nocturnal and most of these sleep at night due to following a human routine. The point is, there will always exist an interest from our side to get close to wild animals. If we can do it in a more conscious way and respecting their past and present existence, maybe in very long period some can learn how to stay free and in the wild again.

I’ve just returned from Thailand, specifically Phuket. We went to an amazing elephant sanctuary called the green elephant sanctuary. They showed us the elephants (who weren’t tied or chained down) we got to interact with the elephants (without bullhooks) and were shown their night enclosures. The mahouts houses were nearby and we were told the life story of every elephant in their care. If anyone wants to go to an elephant sanctuary I wholeheartedly recommend this one. The level of care these elephants were receiving was amazing and I definitely look forward to going back!

That crocodile sure was pretty disturbing and I looked it up to make sure and you are right so maybe they are starving them
@pmfieryflakes57493 жыл бұрын
I was in a zoo once with a couple of crocodiles around. I was in a cage with a balcony where you can toss food near those animals so you can feed them. They actually pause in place with their mouths wide open, which is telling that it wants to be feed. When one of the staff or tourists throws food near the crocodiles, they actually react to it and start going for it. It is a first come, first server approach. So whoever gets to the meat first gets to eat. When there is no more food around, these crocodiles remained in place. I don't know if they are just stay there or not. First time I've came in they were all scattered. When I bought some meat from the staff and throw it to their cage, they went for it and one of them takes the meat. After that all of them remains in place. Yeah it may sound weird if the crocodiles in the zoo only react to things that are moving around their area, but that's how they do I guess.

I hope people with her kind of job get counselling and training on how to handle such situations and encounters with the likes of the mahouts. All kinds of characters out there. The public should be educated on the same. It's a whole skill set. Otherwise we'll all end up quite broken animals. As we teach kids to be more nature-caring there'll be more rescuers, etc. They have to be equipped. I had an unpleasant learning curve. Hats off to the professions of this nature for humans -- social workers, cops, military, healthcare workers, firemen, etc. Thanks for this, NatGeo.
