Met this legend at a Nor Cal spot one day. Humble and cool, just like in the video. Looking back since, I wish I'd shown more respect. The man is worth of respect, on his own terms.

Maybe he'll see this. That was a cool thing to put out there. All I ever surfed was EC, France, Spain, Portugal, Japan, Indo. Lived on Makaha beach for a few years surfing with those watermen, who were amazing. Never surfed NorCal. No balls for that. Aloha.

I saw his father surf in 1982 at the pier and I was like who is this old man just ripping harder than I've seen anyone. Of coarse he was like not even 30 probly and I was 12. The whole family is so talented

i still cant get over the fact that people let go of the rope that day, and not just nathan, but everyone out there. The fact that everyone came out alive that day is ridiculous

Why does he say the less beatings you take the more waves you're gonna ride?? Does he mean about the possibility of dying, does the pressure down under affect you a lot later in life? Hmmm

It pretty humbling listening and watching nathan-there was one comment on here suggesting he lookd like he needs help, if you are a thinking about pushing your big wave exploits or are already an established big wave surfer you may want to read 'the dark side of flow: a qualitative study of dependance in big wave sufing' souds heavy but then again thats kind of what big wave surfnig is. Cheers

I got a theory on why he got spat out the back and not dumped on the reef. He wasn't wearing a vest.
@SpaghettiToaster7 жыл бұрын
why would a vest get him held down longer?
@jamesmorris87216 жыл бұрын
no it would make him pop up earlier
@Interdiffusion6 жыл бұрын
He wouldn't. Dude's theory is that he would have got sucked into the fat lip of Teahu'ps like a peice of styrofoam due to the extra buoyancy of a vest
