Coach, is it okay to incorporate cycling training (2x or 3x a week) while doing all basketball workouts stuffs? Does it hinder vert jump? I am a former triathlete and i still love grindin on the bike.
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
Nah that is perfectly fine to do! I know it may be tough because I’m sure they may be long rides, but combining your cycling after another workout that you do would be better than separating them due to more recovery time! I’ve never cycled but I can guess that it’s a pretty quad dominant session. Perfectly fine though!

@saharshv23084 жыл бұрын
Aftab Ahamed I experienced that when I started also, but it went away as I kept squatting. U might be keeping the bar on the wrong spot or ur traps aren’t strong yet. Just keep getting used to squatting and it shouldn’t hurt after.

Hi Nate! I would like to be able to squat way heavier than I can do right now. Should I go deep with heavy weight. U know, should I go ass to grass or something in that range. At least be parallel or a bit under.
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
Definitely ass to grass. All exercises should be performed through the full range of motion most of the time. The only time they shouldn’t is when it’s intentional for a purpose like box squats for vertical jump.
@ghak85714 жыл бұрын
Nathanael Morton also, if it is heavy weight, should I use a belt for protection and another quick question. Should I use a trap bar instead of a barbell when I do deadlift or should I switch it up and do both. And does it matter what I use if I’m going to lift heavy weights or lighter weights.
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
If your goal is athleticism and vertical, trap bar is better. But trap bar is more similar to a squat, so a straight bar will actually give you a little more posterior chain work. I have never used a belt in my life and don’t plan to. You can if you want, but it’s similar to an ankle brace. Eventually you need to trust your body and teach your body to work without support. Here’s a video I did explaining trap bar vs straight bar deadlifts for whichever goals you have: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmGvmXylj9-Xr5Y

Hey nathanael, the past 4 and a half weeks ive been training i havent notice any increase in my vert. Why do you think that is? I get enough sleep, eat good, and lift twice a week so im not sure what the problem is.
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
Are you doing any of my programs? If not I would have to assess every single exercise that you're doing and when you're doing them (which I'll happily do if that's the case).
@hi-fd8eq4 жыл бұрын
Nathanael Morton ive been using alot of your information and using it to make one that i felt worked well for me. I start my workout with a hip flexor warmup and some dynamic stretching and do wall sits. Than i go to plyos and ive been doing ankle bounces, one leg vertical jump, dynamic step ups, depth jumps into tuck jumps, and dumbbell jump squats. My lifts consist of dumbbell squats, rdl, Romanian split squats, dumbbell swings and wighted calf raises I then finish with some static stretching.
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
Okay it all sounds good. Any reason you aren’t squatting or deadlifting? No equipment for it? Or is the RDL and dumbbell squats what you put in place of it? Also, you need to make sure that you are progressive overloading each workout! Each time trying to get 5lbs more or a few more reps. Trying to jump higher with the plyos. Trying to get faster with the lifts developing rate of force development. Let me know if you’re progressive overloading because without doing more each time the body has no reason to change.
@hi-fd8eq4 жыл бұрын
Nathanael Morton i currently only have access to 12,20, and 35 pound dumbbells. Although i actually just cleaned off some old barbell plates i had in my garage and just order a hex bar yesterday. So im gonna start to implement deadlifts once i get the bar next week. I had stopped progressive overloading as much because i was finding myself feeling sore for usually 4 days. So the past few weeks i had only been increasing my excercises by 1 rep per week which now that i think about it thats probally not enough.

Not good brother you never want your knees to swell up. Inflammation from workouts and rehab is good but swelling is not.
@DosBrosVideos4 жыл бұрын
I squated yesterday after a long time but I had knee sleevs and eleveted heels on weights it didnt hurt during exercise but my today it feels slightly more hurtful than yesterday do I continue squating or not yet
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
You can squat but don’t skip steps. Add only 5 or 10lbs per week and build from the ground up. You need a solid foundation in order to get to heavy weight. Can’t just jump to anything even relatively heavy. But if it didn’t hurt WHILE squatting, then you’re okay. If it hurts days after, don’t squat again until it doesn’t hurt anymore! Soreness after is okay and will go away if you allow for proper recovery.
@allenaguilar21774 жыл бұрын
I dont like to be that guy but agility ladders just help you connect your mind and feet, Moving your feet quickly in designated squares with your eyes looking down doesnt necessarily translate to speed & agility in sports and there are much better methods for that goal
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
I agree, but when I asked on a community post more than half of the subscribers were saying they wanted agility ladder drills. That’s why I gave alternative drills that were on arc running and defensive sliding. But I appreciate and agree with your comment.
@NathanaelMorton4 жыл бұрын
Also, I need you to be that guy. I have no desire to be the guy who gives out wrong information that he thinks is right. I need to give out good information that will help people become better athletes. So any time you disagree please point it out so that I can learn and make better videos.
