Shame these guys had the plane crash soon after this. There memories live on through others in the band that survived and continued... you gotta so Sweet home Alabama. I'm a free bird now. Her birthday is coming up in 11 days and I just came across this video. Can't believe how you made me love a song again after 12 years of not being able to handle the pain of hearing it. Thank you. They reached their height in the 70's but suffered great loss when the band's chartered plane crashed in 1977.... killing 3 founding members & injuring the whole band. When I first heard this song and heard the solo, I had a melt down. I was 7 years old. I can't comprehend back then how we, as people, have something this beautiful. And when I finally found the name of the band, I found out that they no longer play because of a plane crash. Take note, I was 7 and found something really beautiful just to have the world take it away in an instant. That whole reality thing spoke to me as a child. But hey, 30 years later, I still get the chills when listening to freebird. I listen to it every night since I was 7.

Lynyrd Skynyrd is pronounced "Linnnerd Skinnard". The band chose their name from the teacher they had in Jacksonville, Florida bt the name of Leonard Skinner. These boys were life long friends from their youth. Amazing musicians that unfortunately experienced so much tragedy. But continue to live on through their music. 🤩👍

I grew up in the late 60's and 70's, every year a local radio station would play down to the #1 song and for about 12 years free bird was always #1 followed closely by stair way to heaven, every year!

My very 1st concert. I was 14. Veteran's Stadium, Philadelphia. It was beyond amazing. I still remember it like it was yesterday. ✌️❤️⭐️ BTW, I was yelling at you, IT'S NOT OVER YET!!! 😁 And they're from Alabama, USA. They have a very sad backstory. Half the band died in a plane crash. 💔

Really enjoying your content! Such nostalgia, watching you experience the music. Fantastic stuff. I recommend "Albatross" by Corrosion of Conformity. Sounds metal I know, but it's much more of a 90's wail kind of sound. Thanks for the vid.

I heard it for the first time watching that 70s show one night. My dad walked by and heard me say I wonder what that song is in the really like it. He loved being able to share something with me,that was ours, and we have so many good memories together,I know music will always bring my dad to me when I want to feel like being with him one day in the future (he is battling terminal cancer,I love him for the gift of music and am now sharing it with my son)

(If you look at the album cover behind you, it tells you how to pronounce the name 😉). They played this at the "Day on the green" concert in 1977, where I was in the front row... And I was *feeling it!* This concert was recorded on video and recording for all history and the video can be had from "Wolfgang's vault." Along with Skynnard, Santana, the Outlaws and Peter Frampton doing his Comes Live album played,, as well!! It lasted all day, the entire Oakland coliseum was filled with pot smoke and I had to pay the outrageous price of $8.50 to get in. It was 12 bucks at the gate and that was just not happening. 😆 Now, they're asking a hundred dollars a ticket for lawn seats to Foreigner... Sheesh.
