The new fingerboards are ebony; that's what most ebony actually looks like. In the past manufacturers would only buy uniformly dark wood & loggers would leave most of harvest to rot on the ground. Taylor & Fender are hoping to promote more responsible logging practices & shift the market, much as the market is shifting (due new laws) away from rosewood towards pau ferro & Indian laurel. Lots of people like the new woods (at least the more nicely grained pieces) but there is resistance in the conservative guitar market.

Nathaniel: you’re amazing. Loved your CME demo of this six months ago as well. Fender: congrats on an awesome new guitar. I love them, but I’m also waiting and hoping for $1000 made in Mexico version, preferably one with all light wood for the body (where the back looks like the same light tone as your spruce top natural version). I’ll buy a $1000 version in a heartbeat :-)

Can't quite believe the love this guitar is getting here. Are you guys sure you're not blinded by his amazing playing? Listen to the actual sound. This is supposed to replace (or at least keep you from missing) an acoustic on stage? Wow. Put a piezo in a 120$ laminated top acoustic and it'll sound slightly better. All the best to Fender and their fans, but sweet lord, listening really is a dying art.

First off there is no doubt that these guitars sound and feel great. BUT.. all of the sound shaping is being done by the Fishman electronics using the signal from the piezo in the saddle. I dont hear any difference with these woods over the spruce and mahogany guitars. Now the position 3 body sensor may sound a tad different but ill bet not by much. With that said... you gotta play one of these.. they are magical

Who is this guy and why is he making me feel like an inferior lout? Ok, putting aside my own insecurities, this a fantastic demo and I’m betting it helps sell a lot of these guitars. It sounds marvelous. I also have a thought that maybe Fender should expand the range and introduce another model that looks more like a traditional acoustic guitar. I’m thinking that might bring in a lot of guitarists coming in from the acoustic side that might find the looks of this version a little off putting. They might even want something a little bigger that they can literally wrap their arms around. Just a thought!

In an interview/demo guy who designed it (formerly of Taylor) said that there are more extensive plans for the future. The guitars are being made in a small part of the California plant w/ extensive experience in making electric guitars. They need to build up experience (& probably tooling) to build acoustics in house.

This guitar compromises resonance due to the small body, but it lacks any sort of distinctive ring that e.g. you get with a metallic element, such as a cone. If this guy can't make my ears perk up with it, something's amiss. I'd maybe like to hear a tele-bodied acoustic with something like a thin brass sheet fixed to the inside, and then maybe we would be onto something interesting, though perhaps that would be too much like a resonator, but not as sweet sounding? Who knows. As it is now sonically speaking, I could almost see having this as a 3rd or 4th acoustic option in the collection if it was insanely pretty and eye-catching, as Fender is typically able to pull off, but the design is dull.
