Our Aikido sparring is called randori where multiple people try to gang up on you and you try your best to survive using techniques you practiced. It doesn't really help with performing the techniques, it mostly just teaches you that you gotta keep one guy between you and all the other guys if you don't want to get beat the fuck up.

I took Aikido for a couple months to just get some basic movements down, and my instructor was actually really good. We DID do some sparring (not very structured, but it was fun and really helped with a bit of application that most Aikido instructors ignore). Also swords. The swords were awesome.
