It was a truly independant venue and I cant remember the name of it,very small and intimate. anyway,Nation of Ulysses were promoting the first album,all cups of espresso,american flags suits and fury....It was vibrant stuff. the year was...around about..twenty odd years ago. So I looked on wiki and the gig would have been 91. although they may have been selling the album on tour as a build up....but roughly 91. I also saw The Make-up after that,I think that was at king tuts though...not sure.

I can see where Cedric from At the Drive In got his stage influence from. Awesome!

I used to go to school with Ian, he was the sweetest guy and boy he had a golden arm when it came to football. He could have gone pro, life passed us by and I've lost touch with him now. He never comes to the reunions, we just had our last one December 5th and everyone was there talking about our lives and I said hey do yall remeber Ian, of course they all did remeber him for his charming nature and I said did yall know hes in one of those punk bands. They're all shocked as can be I pulled it up on my google phone and they couldnt believe their eyes blessed jesus we were gushing. Ian I pray for you and I will always remeber the friendship we had if you see this please reach out to us we all long for that chapter of our lives and I know you could do some good in our community again.

Sprinklelouis, it was called The Apollo, downstairs in the back corner of the block across from where the big cinema place is now, and where the old Apollo was. Has lots of glass bricks all over the place. Was a cool venue. And I was at the NOU concert too.

i can't imagine any venue chucking out someone from a band mid-performance unless he was g.g. allin... then again, i'm from melbourne...

great live performence but too bad nowadays bands get banned from venues if they stage dive.. happend to my friends band... there singer staged dived on the 1st song and they didnt let him back in so the band had to do the entire gig without him
@spuffchops7014 жыл бұрын
@hatross69 Were you at this gig? Would have loved to have seen them at the Art School, can't believe I missed this! I was looking forward to hearing Svenonius doing his talk thing about ten years ago...but he didn't show up.

Seems like every band in the early 2000s. Did it take 10 years for this to catch on and then just die again?

i like this even more, because i'd heard from a lot of folks who got to see them live that the NOU were a sloppy live act.

Yeah, a lot DC bands after Fugazi tried to rip their sound a bit. Hoover comes to mind too. But I think NOU brought a lot energy and campy fun to the DC, Fugazi style.
