Wow. I've learned this sign. I can hear. I see no problem if a "hearing person", signing this. What if I don't follow some guidelines, it's offensive. That's what absurd. I want to promote my patriot message. Most likely I'm the only one at a ceremony that could do it. If by possible, a "deaf person", could possibly feel included. And a "hearing person", might enjoy it also. I'm going forward with learning Lsa, even though I'm not perfect yet.

no, darling, when it's simply a yt video idfc but if it's a PUBLIC STADIUM TRANSLATION that is wrong, it's just fucked up. There are actual people who NEED asl and she is not doing that job. There's a like 90% chance they don't have another asl interpreter so she is THE person they think can do asl correctly and show deaf people the song lyrics. it's honestly a big thing, i understand learning in a class or at home, but this is PUBLIC and IMPORTANT. This is not the case of bullying, it’s the case where she pretended to be a fully certified interpreter (isn’t) lied to a university, BUTCHERED a sign language in front of live television and then continues to exploit an entire oppressed population of people and their language for money and clout online. She pretended to be a certified Sign Language Interpreter when she is in highschool and isn't even fluent in the language. And its not he not doing perfect, she completely butchered the whole thing. It was a bunch of crap and jibberish. I understood one sign.

imagine if someone claimed to be a qualified person in any field that they were not certified in and performed that job. Fill it in with ANY field. Imagine the damage someone can do by pertending to be a doctor, a plumber, or ANYTHING. Imagine being completely dependent on ONE langauge and having someone LIE and say that they were able to translate everything for you but they did not know your language. Lola lied about being an ASL interpreter, and the people who depend on ASL interpreters, who actually use ASL for their everyday communication, were now left with someone who claimed to be fluent in their language but not being able to speak it well at all. Like imagine that for any language. Imagine me, an English speaker who took only a few years of BASIC Spanish telling a university that I was qualified to translate/interpret anything from English to Spanish. Now imagine a person who only knows spanish depending on ME. They are depending on ME to now be the one to interpret everything being said in English to spanish. I might know SOME words, but I am not a native speaker and they would be missing SO MUCH information all because I lied about being qualified to interpret a language that I am not fluent in. That is exactly what happened here. Yes some comments are too mean, but there is validity in calling this behavior out.

Why shouldn't Deaf people have the right to the same language access as everyone else? Do you know how rare it is to even have an interpreter at an event? A Deaf kid at this stadium might have been so excited to see the National Anthem being interpreted into their language only to realize it didn't quite make sense. This wasn't for Deaf people - it was for her content. Why do you think this girl's desire to platform herself comes before Deaf people's right to understand and be understood? Of course it's a learning process and must be used, but pretending to be more knowledgeable than you are while standing on a podium or sending out a video using incorrect signs to thousands of people hurts Deaf people, and it's sad that you and this girl are so busy defending her actions that refuse to see that.
