Played for the first time on January 1, 1944 this the very first and original version that has Lenin and Stalin mentioned on the second section. When Stalin died in 1953, the song went silent until a new lyrics were introduced in 1977. Stalin was removed from the Anthem but Lenin was retained.

The choir has nothing to do with that. The last chorus/verse of the 1944 version is about war and battle victory. Ww2 was rough for many Soviet people. Stalin did many things to his own people during the war. So it’s understandable the last verse was taken out

Tovarischi, calm down it's simple. This anthem was made with the bolshevik party anthem by great comrade compositor Alexandrov in around 1936. Our greatest Comrade Lenin died in 1924, he had no way to see the new glorious anthem. The internationale is good too btw.

No, contrary to popular belief it was the NKVD, they were responsible for all the killings, mainly, Yagoda, Yezhov and Beria, Stalin wasn't even responsible for the 1937 Purges, they were carried out by Nikolai Yezhov, Stalin was clean, though a bit firm on the people, it was necessary so he could transform Russia from the old farming society to a nuclear superpower.
