I'd rather imagine the people who decided to copy an old English tune and use it for their national anthem. Not just English but an English drinking tune sang in taverns. I'd like to know why they thought an English pub song would make a great tune for their national anthem. And why they didn't write something new and original for a new country. I guess if the US chose to copy England's language speaking reading writing making it the official language of the USA. 🐻この【アメリカ国歌】(【The Star-Spangled Banner】)は、イギリスのジョン・スタフォード・スミス作曲に拠る、米英で評判の佳(よ)かった、【天国のアナクレオンへ】(1760年代中盤)の曲に、詩人、弁護士のフランシス・スコット・キーに拠る、【マクヘンリー砦の防衛】(1814年)の詩が加味して、【アメリカ国歌】(【The Star-Spangled Banner】)として、アメリカが独立した、1776年から55年後の1831年の、ハーバート・フーヴァー大統領の時に採用された経緯が観られます。 因みに、この【The Star-Spangled Banner】は、【コロンビア万歳】(初代国歌)、【My Country,'Tis of Thee】(2代目国歌)の後、3代目の【アメリカ国歌】 として採用されているようです。 ところで、その【マクヘンリー砦の防衛】の詩の背景となる舞台には、アメリカが独立した、1776年から36年後に勃発した、米英戦争(1812年～1815年、アメリカと、イギリス、イギリスの植民地のカナダ、イギリスと同盟を結んだインディアン諸部族との戦争)の最中の1814年9月に、ボルティモア(メリーランド州)のマクヘンリー砦があるようです。 そのマクヘンリー砦で、フランシス・スコット・キーが、友人の医師等捕虜の交換交渉の為に、イギリスの軍艦に乗り込み、その中で、イギリスの司令官が、キーと共に、その友人も解放する同意を得たが、機密保持の為に、イギリス艦隊がマクヘンリー砦を攻撃する間、2人はその軍艦内で抑留される事になったようです。 イギリス艦隊の激しい夜間攻撃の後、9月14日の夜明けを迎えたキーらは、曙光の中で「by the dawn's early light」、マクヘンリー砦の上に星条旗(星15個、縞15本)が聳えるのを目の当たりにして、マクヘンリー砦が死守された事に感銘を受けたキーは、【マクヘンリー砦の防衛】と言う詩の着想を得、その2日後の9月16日の夜に推敲して、翌9月17日には、巷で披露された処があります。 それから、その【マクヘンリー砦の防衛】の詩に、人気の酒飲み歌である、【天国のアナクレオンへ】のメロディーが結び付き、その後の10月14日に、ボルティモアで歌曲として披露された後、【The Star-Spangled Banner】として、出版された経緯があります。 その1814年の【マクヘンリー砦の防衛】の年から17年後の1831年に、【アメリカ国歌】として採用された変遷に、劇的な感動を呼び覚まします。 そして又、そうした歴史の熱情に裏打ちされた、アメリカの魂や詩人の魂を、人々の気持ちをより一層揺り動かす、元々イギリス由来の、流行りの酒飲み歌である、【天国のアナクレオンへ】(1760年代中盤に作曲された、アナクレオン(紀元前6世紀(紀元前580年～紀元前480年頃)のギリシャの叙情詩人・美少年たち、女人、ワイン、享楽、エロス等を賛美した快楽派詩人)に因んで設立された、ロンドンの社交クラブである、アナクレオンティック・ソサイエティの公式ソングで、その作曲は、アメリカが独立した1776年に近い)の旋律で、オン・ザ・ロック風に割った、文字通りに、アメリカン・ジョーク風に、情熱的で大衆的なパブリック(パブ(バー)・トリック!?)な、そうした、粋におおらかで、程好くうっとりと酔わせる、何処か、ゆとりと気心通う気質を秘めつつ、感情的で感傷的な、自由を謳歌する、大切な精神が親しみ深く宿っている気がします。 それでいて、【マクヘンリー砦の防衛】と言う名の、宿命的な場面で、神に見込まれたように、神秘的に星条旗が翻る、何処か、アメリカン・モニュメントが絵になるような、ダイナミックなスケールの大きな、伸びやかな解放感のある、開かれた広がりを持ち、アメリカの国鳥である白頭鷲が、有史以前からの習性で遠くを見下ろすように、雄大な大地に、逞しく鷹揚でおおらかに溶け込み、世界を俯瞰する視線を持ち、寛容で勇ましい壮観さで迫る、この【アメリカ国歌】(【The Star-Spangled Banner】)には、ある種、伝説的な時代からの、伝統が現在に息づく、威厳ある、アメリカにとって、何時(いつ)も劇的で感動を呼ぶ、とても魅力的で象徴的な、芯のある奥深さを感じます。 🎠この【アメリカ国歌】(【The Star-Spangled Banner】)の、聴く度毎に、清新な気分になれる、誘発的に感動を呼ぶ、とても気さくであり、とても劇的な歌に、本当に魅力あるパワーを感じ、そして、心惹かれます。 🎠戦時下の大変複雑な状況下にある、ウクライナを含有する、現在の時代が要請する、人道的な交流のある、今回の広島サミット(5月19日～5月21日)への、この【アメリカ国歌】(【The Star-Spangled Banner】)の国である、アメリカのバイデン大統領の来日には、核の脅威無き平和を願う、大変重要な意味や使命があり、そして又、世界にかなり強く、歴史的に画期的で記念碑的なメッセージを、文字通りに発信する、平和を望む革新的(核心的)な意味や使命を確かに感じます。 🎠ドラマチックでメロディアスな、この【アメリカ国歌】(【The Star-Spangled Banner】)の、夢のある豊かな時間の流れに、アメリカを想い、アメリカを感じられる、品の佳(よ)い雰囲気に包まれて、より一層、親しみ深さが分かり掛ける気がします。 ❗何と、36人目でのコメントでした。 🌸桜の国の日本から、ハートの桜便りです。 個人的に、神聖なる誓願播粒(願い事の種を蒔く)時刻に。 🌸2023年5月26日(金曜日)pm11:46

not much people know this, but this song is about the battle of September 12th, 1812. the british troops were focusing their canons and guns at the usa flag, in an attempt to take it down, but it wouldn't come down no matter what they did. this is because patriots, fathers, were all under the flag holding it up, even though they knew this would kill them. it isn't "what so proudly we hailed", it's "what so proudly we held"
