Even then, the original author, Samo Tomasik, said this in his diary "Burdened by that thought, I remembered the old Polish song _Jeszcze Polska nie zginęła, kiedy my żyjemy_ ("Poland has not yet perished as long as we live."). That familiar melody caused my heart to erupt with a defiant _Hej, Slováci, ešte naša slovenská reč žije_ ("Hey, Slovaks, our Slovak language still lives")... "

Thats because its exactly the same! Countries copy other country’s anthems all the time. Norway’s and Uzbekistan’s anthems are the same; Zambia, Tanzania and South Africa’s anthems are the same; The UK and Liechtenstein’s anthems are the same

Yugoslavia and Indonesia are structurally very similar (many different ethnic groups and religions). In fact after the events of 1998 some thought that Indonesia would meet the same fate. Thankfully we got the country back together (well, barely).

I am Bosniak and I love my Serb, Croat, Montenegrin, Slovenian, Macedonian sisters and brothers. I see you my people. Also Albanians I see as and consider as close family. This is absolute common sense, we are one people divided in tribes. We share the same genetics, and the people around us are our relatives. Always been like that, since the middle ages, that we lived in our own states, decentralized is our natural state of existing. We dont have to live in the same state, we can foster unity and sense of belonging anyways, that goes beyond political states, that is our path and our destiny.

This should be 1943-2006 as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro continued to use the anthem until the final dissolution of the union.

@@bloo7058 it wasnt. Tito did a goddamn good job at running the country. Yugoslavia was neutral in Cold war, but was respected in both blocks. In fact, Yugoslavs had 4th largest military on planet, had one of the most successful economies, and were the only country that could visit both Washington and Moscow.

@@bloo7058 that wasn't a big problem before 80s. Communist countries had and still have strongly negative view on nationalism. All national movements in Yugoslavia, USSR, China and others were harshly destroyed. But with socialist bloc collapsing, plus political instability in Yugoslavian communist party, nationalists managed to take power in some republics, notably Croatia and Serbia. That was beginning of collapse.

They actually translated the Slovak "Hej, Slováci" by Samuel Tomašík, who in turn adapted the melody of the Polish anthem.
