National Enquirer publisher to return to stand in Trump "hush money" trial

Former National Enquirer publisher David Pecker is due to return to the stand Tuesday in Donald Trump's criminal trial in New York. Prosecutors are questioning Pecker to back up claims that he worked with the former president to hide information before the 2016 election. CBS News' Robert Costa and Errol Barnett report on the trial and CBS News legal contributor Rebecca Roiphe shares her analysis.

He tries to trivialize it by saying it is a bookkeeping error. It is a professional organization with an accounting department and corporate leadership. It is not an accounting error. Companies don’t make this type of error. It was intentional. His followers don’t know about GAAP, Sarbanes-Oxley which is mainly hot public companies but pretty much standard for all large companies, audits, financial reporting standards, so he makes it sound like a whoops, I accidentally made a mistake. He didn’t it it here or when he misstated the values of his properties. It is more of the same. I am not responsible. I own the company but it is everyone else’s fault. He hire them and paid them, he signed off on them, he is responsible.

The pornstar in this case obviously believes that human sexuality is something that's normally done in public. I don't think the majority of American people feel that way. American constitutional law implies that people have a right to privacy. People don't have to answer questions about sex to qualify for employment. I guess the question is, is what you do with your own body sexually speaking relevant to employment. Is it okay to kiss and tell and if you kiss and tell and you're reason for doing so is to damage the other person or ruin his or her career or to make it impossible for someone to get a job is that a violation of the other person's civil rights, if you require money to keep quiet is that blackmail. We don't have to know everything about a person's private life to qualify them for public service. If a cop pulls you over because your car has a tail light out and questions you inappropriately concerning your private life do you have the right to refuse to answer. And can the court ask you why you failed to answer the cops inappropriate questions. I recently saw Joe Biden on TV and he was saying my opponent's a little bit busy right now and Biden was giggling. I think that pretty well sums it up.
