Fascinated myself when I first saw her, although I had heard he took her picture without her permission. I can see the anger in her eyes over it,but it was good to see her again with permission granted this time. I hope she and her family will be safe.

I want to ask you something, steve. Did you offer her any of the thousands of dollars that you made from her picture? did you help her in any way, financially? because it's clear from watching this documentary, she needs help in every way possible....

Do people even read or research before they spout off? Nat Geo has done a ton for her and her family financially and otherwise. Also for the children from her area. Furthermore, Steve McCurry is an amazing artist, able to capture "real" people and situations. Do you really think he was there taking photos of Refugees to get rich?

Thank you for saying this. I read the comments and see that people dont do research. If they had, they'd know she is financially stable as a result of the photos.

I hope National Geographic helps her in some way. Maybe buying a car, or food, a new house. There are many things you can do to improve someones life. Clothes, shoes I mean anything. You don't necessarily have to give money.

This is such a fascinating and sad story. The great success of the portrait had less to do with this Steve McCurry's work, but with the beautiful face of a young girl he just photographed. I guess he earned a lot of money and it would have been his duty to take her and the family out of this life to have a better future. This would have been a opportunity to give her something back. Look what suffer writes in someones face. She just can't laugh and for McCurry in this documentary she seems to be nothing more than a product of his carreer.

does anyone else ever get that feeling where you just want to change the world and make all this evil and suffering go away? It's such a helpless feeling after realizing you have little to no power in helping everyone suffering...

I consider comments like that of 05M4N highly cynical and hypocrite... What have you contributed yourself...?? Mr. McCurry at least gives a young Afghan woman a face, drawing attention to a part of the world that has been destroyed and devastated for decades... If you only would have the courage to go there yourself and work under these circumstances... I have been working under similar circumstances. It is not about making money. It is about telling the story. What's yours...???

the thing I hate about wars, is that they are not something that the innocent civillians choose to live through. Their governments and the governments of other countries choose to partake in such selfish activities looking only for their own gain, not caring about the innocent lives lost and changed forever.

i hope she was paid well for the 1st photo & for dropping her veil which was clearly uncomfortable for her to do. the photographer comes across as an arsehole! i cant believe he asked the man in the shop for a discount saying dont you know who i am? i took the photo! just pay the man steve! you cleary did very nicely out of the photos you have taken of their country!!

Umm its liberal fucktards like yourself are to blame for the condition these women live under the superstitious Islam religion of shit. I bet you believe in all these useless sky fairy.

I wouldn't be too hard on Steve. In some cultures, it is taken for granted that customers negotiate with store owners, and you are seen as a rube if you don't. And after all, he did give us an extraordinary photograph and risked his life to share with the world the suffering in Afghanistan.
@baiderhater12997 жыл бұрын
King Hadu you are a literal idiot. If Islam was the problem she would leave it behind. Ignorant ass fucks like you have to come to their country and fuck things up. If you don't like refugees then don't create them. If white folks didn't make contact or create war in the middle east, she wouldn't be suffering. People like you ruin the world and fuck shit up.

Jahneen Bean I don’t think he was being serious about the discount that’s why he was laughing, he was just letting them know that he was the one who taken it since it is a very famous picture, it’s not that serious

i think what they mean is that because he made a lot of money due to her photograph, it would've been nice to help her out due to her financial position. i don't think it's being pissed off at someone cause they did a good job. It's more disappointment cause he probably had the power to help her out. However, i read that he did help her out, and hopefully he did, so all is well :)

Why would a photojournalist owe anything, he did his job and being good at it pisses you off? Public opinion back then was more important.

Imagine how much money made on her picture, without benefiting herself... NG should compensate her, particularly today, that the Taliban have returned and atrocities continue.

What happened to her? 9-11-01 that was the main reason for the airplanes to kill alot of people who didn't have anything to do with it. I was sad because of this. I hated this 9-11 thing because alot remember that and I feel sorry for them for what happened?
