It is great to hear the different examples side-by-side with the same room, picks, player, etc. The differences are subtle but there and this lets us hear them. Thanks Lenny!

Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. Look for more to come. Cheers, Lenny

I agree with Alex. As you do not identify each model before you play it, the lesson pretty much gets lost. Next, I would like to hear a National Tricone and a Mule Tricone compared. Aw heck, you might as well throw in a National Baritone Tricone also.

Specifically can you tell me what was the third guitar (brand, style, model etc). That was my favorite sound of this round. EXCELLENT video please keep these coming. These comparisons are so useful. Do you have one on wood vs steel?

It would be easier if you said witch guitar is witch... Small question. Beside the sound are there differences in weight or maintenance(rust on steel).

The 3 shiny nickel plated ones are BRASS, the painted and stripped one are steel.

I prefer brass. Of course I’m a bit biased. My ‘31 Style O is my favorite guitar. I do like the sound of steel though. I just thing brass is a bit “fuller” and bigger sounding.

what is your opinion on the 90's style O Nationals?

I would have been helpful if you said which was which, while you were playing.

Sorry. Shiny ones are brass, painted and stripped one are steel.

Hi ! I prefer the sound of the first nickel style (comparing with the other colored), its sound seems stronger in tone and definition...Has-it a steel polished nickel body ? Regards

The third one and the last one. But I think it's the same guitar. Brass, right ?

Nice video. . . . They all sound good and each has it's own unique sound. Its all personal preference. If these were not played in sequence, you would be hard pressed to pick one . . . . . .

Thanks for the demo. Which guitars are brass and which are steel?
@NationalGuitarMan7 жыл бұрын
Shiny = Brass, painted and stripped, Steel.

All sound good but my preference goes to the (nickel plated, bell brass body) Style O models: don't wonder why only pros could afford them in the '30: the steel body duolian or triolian were then much cheaper (though more expensive than basic wooden models !)

Steel sounds warmer/darker brass is brighter

I preferred No. 2.
@JosSae29 жыл бұрын
You can easily hear what steel or brass is been playing. Brass is sweeter and thinner, more bright. More Hawaiian. Steel is more growling, lower in bass, less sweet. A raw sound, steel!

I wonder why all these reso guitars, which are clearly built to be played with an aggressive stompin' approach in blues and swing are always played in this fuckin' open tunings and that fuckin' bottleneck using that almost lounge folk playing
@spacemanfromthepast7 жыл бұрын
It just depends on what style you're playing. This is Texas gospel blues.

I play mine everything from gentle folksy to stompin' aggressive, but never with a slide, I dunno why, I just can't get the hang of slide but I can pick all day long.
