The "Chariots of Fire" theme was also used in the comedic fashion in a "Mr. Mom" scene, also written by John Hughes and released in 1983. Christie Brinkley was known for this and being a Sports Illustrated cover model at the time, and then marrying Billy Joel. She was even in Billy Joel's "Uptown Girl" video shortly after this. What's funny about Clark's infatuation with her is that Beverly D'Angelo is attractive as well. "I thought this was a family movie." Well, this was rated R. It felt special at the time as a kid to see these now-classic R-rated comedies of the early '80s and late '70s like this one and "Stripes" and "Animal House" and I was lucky to have HBO and Cinemax.

Another great reaction, Jay. I could spend hours talking to you about this movie, but I won't. You did well recognizing all of the younger stars from future NBC shows but you missed the Christie Brinkley tie-in as the future Mrs. Jerry Gergich from Parks and Rec. Maybe you got it later, though. In the game Forza Horizon 4, I made, as close as I could to, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster, including the graffiti that said "Honky Lips." It did take me years to also notice that Clark was just wiping down the dishes and putting them away instead of putting them in the dishwasher. The Jane Krakowski recognition also happened after watching 30 Rock, of course. I always thought the kids of Eddie were just "throw away" actors. Low and behold... Can't wait for more and European Vacation is my favorite of the Vacation movies, mostly to my liking the idea of a vacation to Europe.

It is a fun film and I feel that it still holds up, no pun intended! It is the cop pulling them over that gets me as you wonder why he is being so agressive to Clark, then it dawns on you. The original ending was changed. For private screenings, the test audiences loved the movie but lost interest at the ending. In the original, after learning wally world is shut down they go to Mr Wally's house and hold him hostage. They never got in the park. So they re shot the ending which is why Micheal Anthony hall is taller in the ending. Also according to Dana Barron (Audrey) it was a stinking hot day on the reshoot and they had to ride the rides several times to get shots correct. It made her so sick. She explained this is why you don't see her doing a whole lot in the ending.
@Osprey8502 жыл бұрын
I envy you getting to watch this for the first time. I wish that I could do that. The ending was filmed at Six Flags Magic Mountain northwest of Los Angeles. The white, wooden coaster is named Colossus and one of my favorites. I agree that there's something special about wooden coasters. If you're ever in L.A., you might visit the park in addition to Disneyland. If you know Harold Ramis only as Egon, you need to check out Stripes, with him and Bill Murray. Like this, it's a classic early 80s comedy. BTW, since you live in Niagara Falls, you might care to check out the 1953 film Niagara. It's a film-noir thriller that was actually filmed at the falls and even takes place on the Canadian side of the border. It's known for showcasing two of the natural wonders of the world: the falls and Marilyn Monroe. You may not care to react to it, since it's way outside your channel's niche, but maybe it'd interest you to check out on your own time, since you live nearby.

I used to be a wooden roller coaster aficionado until I rode Hercules at Dorney Park. I was only about 16 but it still felt like it was going to dislocate something (I've read that it was notorious for a particularly rough section; they retracked it, I think, but it was still pretty bad). I have gotten back into riding them, but I prefer steel ones now just for the fact of them having a smoother ride.
@Osprey8502 жыл бұрын
@@ScientificallyStupid Yeah, I think that the rough ride and the old fashionedness of it are the appeal of wooden coasters. I wouldn't want to ride *only* wooden ones, but they're a refreshing change after you've ridden 3 or 4 steel ones in a row. The wooden coaster in the movie, Colossus, was converted to steel some 10-15 years ago. That's a bit sad, but at least they didn't tear it down. It still looks like a wooden coaster, but all of that wood is decoration rather than structural now, I think.

The parking lot kinda reminded me of Cedar Point. (which is highly recommended) Disney World & Disney Land? They really aren't what they used to be. They are very crowded, and it's hard to get around and have fun. I'd say amusement parks are always for all ages, until you personally get tired of them. The pace was a bit frenetic, but in a way, I think that helps give you a fuller experience of a multi spot roadtrip, without getting too serious & turning into a drama. In a more modern film, maybe there would have been a bit more character development, but maybe it could have confused things a bit. The idea worked for "Planes-Trains", but maybe Vacation wouldn't be Vacation as much, with fewer stops. Christie Brinkley was a model. She was in commercials. She was in magazines. She was in the news & maybe a movie or two, but not so much into entertainment at this point and time. People definitely knew who she was. Now, the bed shakers, those were typically found in motels - not so much hotels. By the 80's, they weren't so common, but they were often found in a chain called "Howard Johnson". These hotel/motels typically had an orange roofed restaurant, with a teal steeple on top. The older ones had a matching lobby, with a similar design. The chain still exists today, but it's now just your typical high rise hotel chain. I'm glad you got to this one. It's definitely a classic that has endured.
