Seriously, things went dark for a few seconds before I caught my breath. Still love this movie. Brian Doyle Murray is Bill Murray's brother. My only problem with the 3 real Vacation movies, not counting meta-knowledge, is that I hate how inclined to infidelity Clark is. It's one thing for someone to end up in a tempting situation by accident and not act on it, but he seeks those situations out intentionally, which is already basically cheating in my book and, for me, that's just not funny even if he doesn't ultimately cross the clear line in the sand. At least that situation is somewhat less egregious in this movie than in the first Vacation (and I can't remember European well enough at the moment), but Beverly D'Angelo is beautiful, and her character is devoted, loving, and... a giver, let's say. Also, I watched part of Modern Problems recently and I swear Chevy Chase must've had it in his contract that his characters cheat on their wives. I think Mr. Mom handled the idea of extra-marital temptation much better.

Their "house" was a combination of interiors on sound stages and the exterior shell on the residential street backlot section of the Warner Studio Ranch in Burbank. The Griswold house and others on the street had been used in countless films and tv shows over many decades. Sadly the decision was made to demolish the entire backlot late in 2023 to be replaced with additional stages. You can find still images and videos of the lot, its history, and demolition online.

In previous movies? I don't think so but anyone can feel free to correct me. The theme is usually the Griswold's aka The Typical American Family is vacationing somewhere else (Wallyworld, the UK, so on) and are themselves problem where the twist here is the vacation to their home (but they are still there thus the problem is as well). The idea was that it is established that Clark is unlikable jackass thus naturally his neighbors who seem to be a bit bougie are already fed up with him. Kind of outlining that he rubs people the wrong way with his snarky attitude. The first movie was worth it or at least in this vein if you will though the humor would be a bit dated. I can't recall if the European was worth it not. I remember the intro being hilarious fun. What I like about this one is the no nonsense approach versus the typical holiday movie glitter. And subsequent message about expectations. It's a nice break from the norm imo.
