There are four branches of the National Museum of Contemporary Art, Korea, or MMCA for short, located in Gwacheon, Deoksugung, Seoul, and Cheongju.
The museum was founded in 1969 and was the first national art museum in the nation to house both international art from various eras and Korean modern and contemporary art.
About 10,000 pieces of art, including those by modern Korean artists, are housed in museum collections.
The MMCA location in Seoul distinguishes itself from other museums by utilizing the traditional Korean architectural concept of "madang," which is a large courtyard where people meet to mingle.
The building's exterior blends in beautifully with the surroundings.
The museum has a lot of features inside, such as a multipurpose hall, project gallery theater, and research center.
MMCA Seoul aims to interact with the public and support all forms of contemporary artistic activity.
Inside the museum there is also an Art Book shop and Art Shop Seoul (MMCA Shop). As well as 2 coffee shops and 1 Korean traditional restaurant (Tea House Osulloc, Terarosa Coffee shop, Doore).
