National NC-300 Ham Band Receiver Demo Part 2

In this video, the capacitors are replaced, the alignment is done, and the radio is receiving very well.
In addition to the mysterious electrolytic capacitor, I find a crystal blocking access to as alignment point. This leads me to an empty can that previously probably had a tuning coil in it.
Does your NC-300 have these mods? They appear to be factory done.
A quote from Manual Man "The NC-300 always seem to be in a state of flux. There obviously were a number of on the shop floor changes that never made it to an update of the schematic and parts list."
Once back in the cabinet, I go thru the various bands and modes showing this beauty off.

Select at OFF should work and will be LOUDER then 1, 2 or 3 on Select.. Adjust the variable CAP on TOP of the select box for best hiss and output when the Crystal Phasing is level. The eelect knob is really 3 powers of degrees of NOTCH Depth and the Phasing is the NOTCH. The IF knob is the bandwidth. Source: I have one of these NC-300's.

Thanks for the ideas. I will try them out when I get a chance. I've been trying to sell this at a local Hamfest w/o any luck. However, now I'm going to keep it for a vintage AM station because someone wants to buy my Hallicrafters SX-101A that I was saving for that purpose. 73 Paul AA1SU

I'm not sure. I was under the impression that only the electrolytics mattered for polarity. How do I tell the foil side?
