National Ploughing Championships Bishops Lydeard 2023 Heavy Horses Edition 14th October

In this video, It's all about the Heavy Horses! After the recent Rain it was heavy going getting around the Grounds with Thick Mud everywhere along where the Traders Stalls were, so only went through once! The Horses were all very well turned out and were probably grateful that the Rains had softened up the ground. Plenty going on over a Very large area so didn't get to see everything.

Plowing with horses is so much nicer to watch than tractor plowing. Unfortunately few people still use horses on their farms. I do, have done it for 60 years and still enjoy it, even when it is harder on me than when I was younger.

Yes Mike, I'd never thought about the mechanics of Horse Ploughing until this event. The Ploughmen & women will have bags of strength and stamina to do this all day. Amazing to watch...I am now a big fan of Heavy Horses!
