Sony a7 Panoramic Tutorial

Awesome. I got what I wanted to know in the first 2 minutes as I don't do any software editing. I was impressed that Sony panoramic was sharper that stitching them manually together. I did have to clarify for myself the beginning part of using Panoramic mode in about 10 minutes trial and error and now I know how to do Sony Panoramic with my A7. Before your video I didn't even though I have a Sony compact superzoom with Panoramic mode and knew how to use that on the non digital non mirrorless Sony compact. Now I'm ready to rock and roll and get some fantastic Panoramic shots to impress myself and my friends.

Interesting and it reminded me about the content aware fill. Though you forgot to mention that the in camera panorama is JPEG only while doing it manually you will work with RAW images that will result in more flexibility when post processing (even though bigger files) Cheers

In Photoshop you could have just command selected your layer then inverted to select anything that wasn't image - essentially you already have an alpha channel. Then refine your edge from there..

You can shoose automatic content fill option for transparent areas while merging to panorama in photoshop

What if I need 360 panoramic HDRI Picture for Vray?Only manual then?Own Sony A7s and use it with metabones and canon lenses.Also found some problems with camera mach. find proper perspective,what with canon 7D didn't happened to me.Also with some of the lenses like fish eye sigma 10mm making timelapse and then camera stop shooting.For Video slog2 really good camera but for photography sometimes having problems

Shooting panoramas in either with on board camera function or manually needs to have a Nodal Point Head such as Gigapan, Nodal Ninja or Really Right Stuff Nodal Head to stitch properly. As demonstrated in this video rotation point is at least 1 to 1-1/2 ft behind camera. Only objects very far away from camera will be properly aligned in final stitch. Parallax in the lens will prevent objects in near foreground from being aligned in the stitched image.

You can also just rotate the camera around the center of the lens by hand. It works fine unless there is something like a transparent grid or fence in the foreground (which may not be the best composition choice anyway). For images that have moving objects, people, etc., doing it by hand this way is often better because it's faster, and the scene moves around less...

I prefer the one done manually simply because of the stuff included especially the foreground... I wonder if you were shooting RAWs or JPEGs... also love to know how to correctly expose when you have a contrasty scene? thanks

The sony auto pano is jpeg from my testing. The manual way gives you more room for editing if you shoot in raw. If theres a way to get the auto pano to shoot raw let me know but i havent been able to find any way to change that.

I am a Sony shooter and mover up from A77ii to the A7riii I would NOT have done so if I had noticed that Sony for whatever reason have taking off the in-camera Panoramic mode

Hi, I have a sony A7 + 55mm f1.8 sony zeiss. I found your tutorial very informative, for example i didnt know i could pan the camera in a vertical direction as well. I have done a couple of horizontal pans, but I almost always seem to end up with a blank last shot which looks like a black box in the final photo. could you tell me what I could be doing wrong? Also, Could you share a video of how to track moving subjects, because I find it difficult getting sharp shots of children even in focus tracking mode. Probably you could recommend a list of settings for that. Regards

You may be going too fast or too slow in your pan. Trial and error with clarify it for you.

Great video! I have an A7S and when i did the auto one is there a way of setting an higher if stop because my one stays on 2.8 the whole time when I need it at f8. Thanks

***** I'm not sure it got what I was talking about . But when I do the Auto panoramic it wont let me aperture at all because it's on auto. Is there a way of turning that off so that I don't have to put the photo's together in light room? Can you film yourself doing this if there is please?

Can you turn off clicking sound while taking manual panoramic pics without loosing quality? Also, I like manual panoramic better because it is bigger vertically! Thank you!

Hi did not compare both width and height in pixels for both. The manual one looks bigger vertically than the one taken in the camera panorama mode because it has been just zoomed out by photoshop to make it fit into half of a screen in terms of applying the same width for both. In fact the one done in the panorama mode is actually bigger because if you make it the same size vertically the width of the right side picture will also increase.

sony = jpeg M= raw i think the camera adds sharpening on the jpeg ! Raw i always better :D

With the circle on the right side of the monitor push top or bottom or left or right edge to change direction and you see the arrow move in the EVO.

@@lauramacky4083 It's going to take a lot of practice. I bought my Sony A7 6 months ago and learnt with trial and error. However you could watch KZbin videos about the Sony A7 for specific tutorials you want.

Considering that the objects he was focusing on (mountains, vegetation, e.t.c.) was far enough in the background, parallax would not have been an issue. If the objects were closer (and had straight lines), then, he would have had to think about using a pano head or something along those lines.
