The First World War, Khilafat, and Non-Cooperation We begin by setting the stage with the First World War and its impact on India. The war led to increased defense expenditure, financed by war loans and higher taxes, causing economic strain. The period saw the rise of the Khilafat movement and the Non-Cooperation movement, which marked a new era in the Indian freedom struggle.
The Idea of Satyagraha Mahatma Gandhi introduced the concept of Satyagraha, emphasizing the power of truth and non-violent resistance. We will discuss how this idea became a cornerstone of the Indian national movement and inspired mass participation. We will see satyagrah by gandhi ji in CHAMPARAN IN 1917 , KHEDA IN 1917 and AHEMDABAD IN 1918.
The Rowlatt Act The Rowlatt Act of 1919, which allowed the government to detain political prisoners without trial, sparked widespread outrage. We will examine the Act’s implications and the subsequent nationwide Satyagraha led by Gandhi.
Differing Strands within the Movement India’s struggle for freedom was not a monolithic movement. Different social groups had varying aspirations and motivations. We will explore the diverse strands within the movement, including the participation of women, the role of the working class, and the perspectives of various communities. Like MOVEMENT IN COUNTRYSIDES, MOVEMENT IN TOWNS, SWARAJ PLANTATION FIELD .
Towards Civil Disobedience The video will then guide you through the events leading to the Civil Disobedience Movement, including the pivotal Salt March. We will analyze how this movement intensified the national struggle and brought international attention to India’s quest for freedom.
How Participants Saw the Movement Understanding the movement from the participants’ viewpoint gives us a glimpse into the collective psyche of the time. We will hear accounts of individuals who were part of this historic journey.
The Sense of Collective Belonging Finally, we will discuss how the national movement fostered a sense of collective belonging among Indians. This segment will highlight the creation of national symbols, songs, and the redefinition of Indian identity.
