What Todd stated is correct and exactly how I maintain all of my batteries. I installed an irrigation system on my 4 coach batteries and 4 golf cart ones as well. Top them off with distilled water monthly and keep them on a maintainer/charger. They will last for years if you take care of them!! Thanks as always Todd 👍👌

You are right lots of people don't do their maintence then can't figure out why the batteries are dead. You might mention that it is a good thing to take pictures of your cables before you remove the batteries so you can get them back in the right place. No sparks and arcing is a good thing.

If you have AC at your home you can use a coffee filter, shape it like a funnel and place it at the top of an empty water bottle and catch the dripping water from your AC drain pipe and you have all the free distilled water you can ever need for your batteries.

I store my truck camper in storage. Usually around 5 months during winter. Should I remove my 2 batteries and bring them home. Maybe trickle charge them in the garage once a week for 24 hours just to maintain them.??

I opened my battery case to inspect battery and it was full of water. Since freezing temps are around the corner I opted to drill holes in the case, not the battery, so it would drain. The little vents in the lid allow rain in so that should be addressed. Thanks for your videos.

Absolutely. In the case holding the battery not the battery. Smart move.

Do we need to keep our batteries connected to the charger 24/7 while they are out of our RV? Or do we charge it and then disconnected for a week and charge it again? I had my 24/7 to a 4 amp charger that say it will maintain as well , but I started to smell something, call the store I bought the charger and they say to disconnect and charger for a day once a week. How is the correct way of doing it. Thanks for all of your videos they are great way to learn. I’m new at all this

Thanks for this info. I knew nothing. I am getting ready for a trip and heard something in compartment. When I opened, one battery was hot and sounded like it was boiling, and the other cool. I checked the water and filled all the cells (put too much water in). It does not seem to be cooling fast. I am hoping it will not cause a fire.

turkey baster! thanks! A funnel wasn't doing it for me at all. And I also need to use a mirror on a stick because sticking my phone in the battery compartment and snapping a photo wasn't showing me anything useful.

Thank you so much - clear, except........ you simply mention "use a flathead screwdriver to pop of the cell caps", but I would have loved to have seen you do that! I am a complete newbie to this, and the assumption that I know how to simply "pop them off" is not accurate. Help!

i have 4 batteries in my MH - currently in storage off-site, no power source available. If I remove the batteries, can I trickle charge in series? Or can I just run the generator for 30-60 mins once per month to maintain a charge? - ie, don't remove the batteries while in storage.
@alansach8437
@alansach8437 4 ай бұрын
Most of the time you have to "exercise" a gas generator once a month anyway, unless you have a gasoline shutoff valve that allows you to run the gas out of the gen. If you remove batteries in such a case you can't start the genny. I just leave mine plugged onto shore power all winter. It has a charge wizard to prevent the batteries from being overcharged. Then I go in once a month, unplug it, and start the gen for an hour.

So just plugging in tt to house power and leaving battery "connected" vs. using battery disconnect is the best way to keep charged during off season use? Right now mine is "disconnected" in the tt and running on trickle charger.
@NationalRVTrainingAcademy
@NationalRVTrainingAcademy 2 жыл бұрын
Right. No need for a trickle charger as the converter is already a charger. Yes there is more than one good way. I suggest a cos free way. You have a different way. Ok

@@NationalRVTrainingAcademy I changed my method after watching the video. It will charge to higher voltage using the shore power than the maintenance charger. I now leave the two batteries in the trailer, plug the trailer into shore power and leave the trailer "connected" with the disconnect switch. Just checked water level yesterday. So far so good. Thanks!

can you use a 12V charger if you have 2 6V deep cell Batterys wired as a 12V system. and do they need to come out of the rig to use the trickel charger.
@trentsdiyadventures
@trentsdiyadventures 3 жыл бұрын
I have 2x 6V set up. I use a 12v battery tender to trickle charger. Keep the batteries hooked up in series. Then hook up the positive and negative tender terminals on the appropriate connection (positive on one battery and negative on the second battery). Also technically, no they do not need to be out of the rig to do this. All depends on where the power source is to run the battery tender. You also do not want the batteries to freeze. Check with the battery manufacturer for freezing point. I’m going on 3rd winter with mine. Make sure you top off the cells with distilled water before storing.
