@Billdeddd1647 Thanks for your comment. I appreciate you being respectful. I know archeologists and have worked with them on archeological diggs. Once, I worked with 10 on a sight. They were from all over the southeast. What really surprised me was that they all had such a monolithic mindset, never questioning one another. I am a hobbyist who has concentrated in the area of tools. Almost no one does this, and most know little about them. That being said, it does leave a lot of room for speculation, and that's ok. I read a fair amount and always like those who think out of the box a bit! I think it moves the field forward.

Oh my, I’d love to see your whole collection. I’ve been hunting artifacts for the past 50 years. After seeing all your museum quality artifacts, it’s has dawned on me ex on me that I’ve been collecting the wrong artifacts. Can’t believe I’ve spent most my life packing a bunch of junk home. I’m headed back to the desert with my last 50 years of rocks, dumping them and going by what you’ve taught me today. Thank you my friend:)

Many tools are specific to their culture! You may want to double-check before you throw them out!

I recently found a hunting tool called a crescent in a river on the north side of Lake Ontario. It looks like a stone boomerang and was used to immobilize large game birds to get close by to spear.

Sorry but I think these are all just rocks with all due respect. I live around the Ocean (beaches everywhere) in Eastern Canada and you could find rocks just like this within 15 minutes, they are just everywhere. I have a few myself that I would love to think are artifacts and a few that might for sure be. I left something on the beach the other day that I questioned and now I’m kicking my ass. I live within a couple miles where an indigenous site once was and now it’s all been redone as a beautiful historical tourist attraction called Fort Le Tour

Have a friend who finds some really nice and unusual tools on the Maryland shore. Also, quite a few points and blades. 25 plus thousand years of occupation on this land! The surface hasn't even been scratched. Start keeping some interesting finds. If you can repeat them enough, you may be on to a type of tool.

Thought you would like it if I told you I happened to see the theme for the native on a couple of your rocks the oel is bitten by the rattlesnake on the talon as and dies then the eagle or hawk comes and takes the snake and kills it pecking it in the head. Just thought I'd tell you look at those rocks again they are 200 years old. Not too easy to see
@20greeneyes20
@20greeneyes20 Жыл бұрын
How can you tell that the water is what shaped the rocks and not man? I know some are obvious because of the pecking marks..m But one like me can really use my imagination and make any rock and artifact.
@brentkuehne435
@brentkuehne435 Жыл бұрын
It's not always easy. It takes careful examination. First thing I look for is geometric shapes, that are not consistent with regular river rocks. Bifurcated Chipping, and polishing. Soil and oil staining that permeates the stones in hand held tools. Ware points. Repeatability, finding the same tools. There are more, but this is what I look for the most.

@@brentkuehne435 Thanks for your helpful advice. I know it's easy to make something out of nothing with an active imagination. Where I live it was very populated with many American Indian tribes. Can't help but go there. So the hunt is on...... Thanks!

I’ve collected read researched studied native time periods for 30+ years. I’ve thrown thousands of these out of fields and other sights. Never even considered picking them up in a creek. Always figured something that has been in water for years would color and come in some wild shapes. I have actual arrowheads that’s smooth from laying in a drip line for 1000’s of years. To each there own but rocks like these i personally pass on

@@brentkuehne435 I know you do, and I like ( love ) hunting for them too. Brent,, I'm not claiming to be some kind of expert, and I,, by no means am trying to be disrespectful or anything like that. I don't know how long you've been doing this either. I do know that 23 years ago when I started, I was picking up every little or big rock I saw, knowing it was something but 90% was nothing,,(lol). I love watching KZbin videos of people hunting them,,,if they're picking up actual stuff. People would tease me by saying "Boone, the rocks you're picking up are Indian sex stones,,,they're just fuckin ole rocks". I was misinformed by a couple people who I thought would know what they were talking about,,,they didn't. Again,,I ain't nobody, just an ole country boy from a small town in Kentucky, and as long as you're having fun,,,roll with buk. If I offended you in any way,,,I'm sorry. Twas not my intent.

@@joeyarmstrong4415 Been doing it for quite some time. I am a hobbyist but probably know more about the local cultures than anyone. I worked for two years with academia at our new museum setting up native American displays, they learned a lot whether they wanted to or not! 25000 years of occupation with thousands of cultures that have come and gone, the reality is we know very little about these cultures. If you do a deep dive into it, over time you start putting some pieces of the puzzle together that no one else has done. I appreciate your comment.
