Columbus day is still celebrated because Columbus took a chance on a new and unproven theory that the earth was round. He took a wooden ship across the Atlantic ocean in the 1400s when the voyage took months. Months on a ship in uncharted territory with no refrigeration or non-perishable foods. No safe way to keep clean, fresh water, and no way to navigate except by the stars at night. He took an extremely dangerous chance on a new scientific theory and discovered a continent the rest of the world didn't know existed. If anything had gone wrong him and his entire crew could have easily starved, drowned, or died some other horrible death. There's no doubt that he committed crimes against humanity but the world was a bad place back then. That doesn't change the fact that his work changed the history of the human race. Just like the fact that indigenous American tribes did human sacrifice and other horrible crimes doesn't change the contributions of their culture.

Africans traveled to the Americas well before Columbus but they werent genocidal maniacs like that guy. Everyone had to endure tough circumstances traveling to the Americas but just because you endured it doesnt give you the right to wipe out a whole race...

Why are people arguing who had it worse???? That allows the oppressor to win. All people of color need to unite instead of arguing who was raped and murdered worse. Black, Natives, Latino, and Asian need to stop bickering over who had it worse.

Also just the poor in general as an oppressed group. Race is a big thing, but so is class. The poor and all of the oppressed need to unite, but of course that's very difficult. The capitalist system, by its very nature, keeps the poor and oppressed peoples at odds with each other. A good example of this is the police vs. people of color. It's really up to the police to make some concessions for everything they've done wrong, how corrupt they are. There needs to be reform on their part, not the other way around. But they're working class people, stressed-out people, often just like the communities they subjugate to terror. But they do so, partly because of racism, but also because of the way the system is set up. Humans aren't meant to do such difficult work for such little compensation. It's a spit in the face and a waste of life, especially when things could be better (more balanced distribution of wealth). When they feel like outsiders and inferior to the higher classes, the best they can do to feel content is convince themselves that they are better than people of color, the poor, and those who commit crimes (often for understandable reasons given their plot in life). Hopefully one day all the oppressed can unite and rise up, but personally, I think it's going to require a greater distribution of wealth. Democratic policies are far from perfect, but voting Trump is going the opposite route of getting to this point of unity. I think eventually we'll get there, but we can't allow the wealthiest people in the world to profit so exponentially high off the exploitation of workers.

Its really not this deep! lol My mother was full blood Native American from Pine Ridge,SD and my father is Black,African American,Afro American whatever you wanna label him from Brooklyn,NY. I come from two great nations. My mother did a phenonemal job raising my brother and I to be proud of being from two great descendants of people. I learned the ways of my African and Black culture. She taught me my Lakota and other Indigenous cultures. It was those outside of my home that treated me mean because of the color of my skin and the texture of my hair. I was picked on by black, native, latino and white people because they thought I was adopted because I didnt look like my mother. If I wore my native cultural regalia they would call me "pocohontas" and laugh or put their hands over their mouth and scream fake war crys of "lilili." When I would wear traditional african garments i would be called "african booty scratcher" or laughing that I am a slave. So its sad that in 2016, this type of ignorance is still happening today. I know many of you all don't personally know my story. Don't know that my late mother Wauneta Lonewolf was introduced into the Nation of Islam by working for Muhammad Ali as his public relations director. Many of you all may look at my entire interviews, etc and say "Oh she ain't native! She is Muslim! She is a fraud!" etc etc. But all of your judging is completely wrong and if you do than you are as worst as the oppressor that have oppressed many of our ancestors on all nations. WAKE UP!!!! Stop judging me!!! If this post isnt enough don't worry I will be releasing my memoir and docu-series soon just to give hope to those that had to hide who they are because of ridicule and ignorance. Embrace your differences and you have a full life ahead of you to get stuck in your ways. You will be surprised what you will learn by hearing someone stories behind their appearance. 1 its not we you are not moors moorish ppl enslaved other blacks and sold them into the americas 2 no the assumption that the moors brought enlightement is clearly false this started in northern italian cities like florence and venedig where the renaissance began in the 13th century 3yes there were chains and whips in fact the european started enslaving blacks after seeing how profitable it was for muslim moors who btw are and were of mostly mixed descent with some who are and were blacks 4 the moors later became the barbary states and continued to enslave europeans until the 1850s 5 you identifying as a moor is very interesting considering the fact that the current ppl who are moorish from south morroco and mauritania not only DO NOT consider themselves black but arab or tuareg and they STILL ENSLAVE black ppl the same in lybia in north sudan egyot yemen and saudi arabia yet you wanna be part of the ppl and claim their ancestry from those who back then and currently are still enslaving black ppl damn you must hate that you are black and that you are from west south or central africa but mosdef not from north africa here a few vids where you can see actual black slaves enslaved by moors/arabs/tuareg/berber those videos are not history vids its vids filmed by the slave master or bystanders and show you how the real descandants of moors treat black ppl so much to the enlightement meanwhile in america blacks become millionaires billionaires presidents entertainer pro athletes etc. please watch these vids and then tell youre a moor kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqSVfYl5ebaLodE kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGOndmmnm7t2oas&oref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dz2DE6qfVCkI%26list%3DPLvmeZgSAV9V26aJTK7748ksIjV3JAqCHp%26index%3D20&has_verified=1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYfYgoefhrN9hac kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGbVh3ana5WFeq8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqCwkGZur9aWgbM kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5iui4VojJ5pgKc kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4ndhZuke96dfZI kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYfYgoefhrN9hac kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5e5ZoN_dtaeibM kzbin.info/www/bejne/hH_UlpidrtKtn68 kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6q0nYKGeZ2ghNE kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHLXcqyOd7SkpJY kzbin.info/www/bejne/oJ6YooCogbqWpNU&oref=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Djm5qMrLUcns%26index%3D4%26list%3DPLvmeZgSAV9V26aJTK7748ksIjV3JAqCHp&has_verified=1 kzbin.info/www/bejne/h33Nc3ytj6ianJY kzbin.info/www/bejne/jIK7g36rpL9_fKs kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5KQZKOGiLOSgq8 kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJTbeKqIftNgaNk if you still think these are your ppl one thing ima say last your real ancestors are rotating in their graves out the shame you bring to your lineage

You people are just ignorant when it comes to Natives so y'all expect them all to look like your stereotypes.

Yellow Synth I definitely agree with you Im spectacle about light skinned Spanish looking people saying they are native American because historically white ppl could register as native American and mix with the indigenous blacks and then call themselves native...not saying they aren't off they carry the blood but there should've been more black ppl in this interview because we are the indigenous native ppl

Good interview. It's messed up to hear that so much bad still happens to the Natives and gets swept under the rug. It was good to hear the chick say she'd like to see an alliance between the Native protesters and black protesters. I know there are a lot of blacks out there that want to ally with Natives, Hispanics, and other disenfranchised groups but feel like those people don't care or have no interest in linking up with blacks. You take any one minority group and the power there is limited, but if all the minority groups stepped up and worked together, there would be no stopping us.
