The Mountain Galaxias is a small native freshwater fish that is found in creeks and rivers in south-eastern Australia, particularly at higher altitudes. Like many other species of galaxiids, it was once widespread and common, but only thrives in areas free of introduced predatory fish such as trout and redfin. These fish were filmed in a headwater tributary of the Shoalhaven River near Braidwood in NSW. Another recent video with the same name shows a drifting view of the fish and their habitat shot at the same time as this one.
