@@PeterandYen If you do, I'd recommend going on the free tour of the Beehive and the Parliament buildings. Was fascinating and you get a surprising amount of access. Only prob is for most of it they don't allow photography, except for the theatrette (you know - the one where Jacinda does her Covid announcements).

@@PeterandYen I take a keen interest in all kinds of wildlife, especially if I get to watch it in its natural environment. And I also appreciate our local wildlife, as rare as it is (there are over 11 million Belgians on a surface that is about the size of Otago, so not much room for wildlife): the rare kingfisher in our garden pond, the imposingly big blue herrons that fly low over our heads, the shrieking buzzards high in the sky, the little owls that make the same sound as the rubber squeekie toys you'd buy for your dog ;)

The lighthouse is so so cool, you guys really have a lot of lighthouses there in NZ. That watch tower is so pretty! - oh yes that's the thumbnail photo, really great job on the bird drawing too! That's amazing that bird Takahe was considered an extinct bird and that it's found on this island. We love that it's volunteer run! Nice you have to pack your garbage in and out. Butters has a Field Guide for birds in the USA and Canada... as it's always nice to be able to identify them!! LOL. Cornell Bird Lab is awesome too they have an app!

Yea it's great when you get to see them in a natural environment like an open sanctuary such as tiritiri matangi! We've seen them in the zoo before but those are still enclosures. Field guides are super handy! Glad we had one for our walk too ☺️

Tiritiri is another one on my bucket list so was stoked to see you went there. Sorry Peter but pretty sure that was a pukeko. Not "fat" enough to be a takahe. If you're ever down in Wellington they have Takahe at Zealandia. Guaranteed to see them there. I've only seen one kokako before and that was at Pukaha National Wildlife Center (Mt Bruce) near Masterton. They really are a beautiful bird. Americas Cup village is looking good. Are you going to go down and watch any of the races? Go Team New Zealand!!!!

Those 🦎 are pretty rare to see apparently, we've so far only ever seen them in the zoo. Would be absolutely amazing to see one in the wild. Might need to do an over night stay at tiritiri cause really wanna just take our time and observe the animals. Hahaha yeah we've been chatting about meeting up with chasing a plate for ages but funny enough we just end up randomly meeting each other in the viaduct hahaha... that's NZ for ya. It's a Maori name that means I think 'buffeted by the wind' or 'wind blowing about' 🙂 Hahaha yea Peter loves like almost all animals 😁 neither of us have ever owned a pet bird though! Would feel sad having it in a cage I think... Not quite sure but they just happened to get finally rediscovered one day luckily 😅
