Native vs DSP Plug-Ins: Which Type Should You Use?

I wish you get the option to convert a UAD DSP plugin in a session to a Native plugin if you're sharing the session with someone else who has the Native version of the plugin used in the session. As of now, they have to load the Native version of the plugin and copy the settings from the DSP plugin to get the same processing. Would be awesome if it was something that happened automatically with a confirmation prompt!

They would have to be able to control the whole DAW environment to have the software handle this seamlessly. So LUNA can do that. Pro Tools can do the DSP/Native switch with many of their plugins, but you have to have the right license and hardware. So it's no different with UAD/LUNA.

I have the Volt 476P, I’ve been tempted to jump to an Apollo for the Unison, I use mostly amp plugins like Helix Native, Neural, etc… there’s not many videos out of the Apollo Unison amp plugins, like Diezel and Suhr, is it worth the jump to get that alone? I use other stuff such as compression, reverb and delay, etc….

Yeah! ran out of DSP when almost finishing my Song that i've been working on for 8 months ( works still ) I had to find a work around to make it happen for last 2-3 Plug-Ins & I'm running X6 & Twin ! ( I know curtain Plug-Ins use more DSP ) Thx you, George

Love all of my UAD gear. Although, unfortunately I find that I can’t add UAD plugins (Native or DSP) in Logic while producing because of the crazy amount of latency they add. Am I doing something wrong? I get recording through plugins in Console but sometimes I want to add something like a culture vulture or moog filter in Logic while still tracking.

its not actually fully "native.." - You MUST always be connected to the internet to access the "native" versions OR spend more money on a physical iLok usb to use it offline. So in retrospect, you may need "additional hardware" (the iLok). Its ridiculous, we should be able access these plug-ins without internet or spending extra money for more things.

That ain't gonna happen until the old dsp chips would get an upgrade... Because that plugin simply is too much for that dsp chip, it can't handle it. The dsp usage of a single core would go above 100% which is obviously not possible...

If you own an Apollo you can print it on the way in. After recording, use Mixdown and then drag the file back in. Easy!!

I bought Apollo for the Unison Technology. Very disappointed. 1073 sounds super harsh. Nothing compared to my BAE 1073 hardware. Avalon has NOTHING to do with the hardware at all. My Avalon sounds creamy and smooth. UAD sounds thin and harsh. My Manley Core Preamp is able to distort the vocal sound in a very pleasant way. UAD sounds flat and harsh. To be fair, most plugins sound like that. I will buy RME again one day.
