Dude you really can eat off camera. Some of us use headphones and we don't need to have the internal experience of the back of your throat while you eat toast. This is actually a ridiculous blunder as a person with a few semesters of sound engineering under their belt I'm impressed you have such a setup yet you act this garish. Is there something wrong with you are you suffering from fatigue or something - why would you not foresee potential disgust and discomfort from strangers who came to hear what you have to say only to be met with you plowing a jellied corner of toast into your maw and subduing it?? Quite possibly the most violated I have been in a while on youtube.

And to answer, Native Speakers are always better to learn from. I didn't need to watch your video, and I can even go farther and say that unless you speak English natively you shouldn't try to teach it, and learners especially should not be paying ANYONE for lessons or tutoring who is not a Native Speaker. Sure, there are very unique people who come from unique backgrounds - who essentially learn English as a native would - and they would make great teachers. These people are rare, and after witnessing myself HOW MANY foreigners want to earn money by teaching other foreigners MY language - I'm shocked and appalled at the lack of quality examples and education their clients receive.

As a Final note - I was hoping I'd learn something from you, but after getting a little too acquainted with the inside of your mouth - I'm unsubbing. There is no way I will forget that - and the blatant disrespect you've shown for viewers here is frankly something I would expect from someone who ISN'T from a European Heritage. Represent us well to the world, please.

@@user-c4b9b Too loud, get a chair! YOUR language is at times more respected and articulated from the mouths of people that come from Africa, South America, China, but you can't deal with it? These people usually speak with absolute confidence 3 to 5 languages. YOUR language is not yours because as of being a lingua franca, it is a trade, commercial, social and economical tool globally, and you can't expect native speakers to deal with all geopolitical scenario when it comes to teaching. Chill, brother. You just being disrespectful and too convicted about yourself

@@user-c4b9b Dude, your actually ridiculous blunder was to think your comment mattered to any of us - most of us do noy have pickles so far up our asses! Do you feel better about your ignorance?? Narcissist much?? I do not appreciate you degrading someone who is taking his free time to give us advice and his experience to make the road a little easier for some of us, Question is "Is there something wrong with you that you feel the need to vent your personal frustration - Perhaps you are fatigued or having personal frustrations in your personal life." Thank you for pointing out that you are a person with a few semesters of sound engineering under your belt - I suppose that makes you a professional to belittle a person who took a few seconds to eat his toast - get over it! I believe it is only you who is suffering from some sort of issue - here is a recommendation - for the 8 minutes that he spoke and gave his free time - remove your headphones so as not to affect your overly sensitive and delicate eardrum! Same goes with you - mind your manner and your words (find it amusing how you started off with "Dude" and them threw in a few big words to sound intelligent - such as "garish" then use "plowing" "violated" "the internal experience of the back of your throat" WHO SPEAKS LIKE THIS OR IN THIS MANNER? SERIOUSLY? Make up your mind if you want to come across as some low-level speaker or high level thinkers (you failled with that) -- I must commend you - you made me laugh because you made yourself out to be a real "tool" I would use another word, but I would not want to have you use it in your large chose of vocabulary! You are rather rude with your words, and you could have addressed this in another manner and more diplomatically. But being a narcissist, it would be expected from people with that dysfunctional personality. And you made it my business to comment when you posted on the platform for all to see. Therefore, you opened the door for people to express how disgusting and self-serving you are by trying to belittle a person who truly is taking some free time in his busy day - something he does not have to do to help us all up in our journey. Be a better person - be mature enough to address him privately and more respectfully - I have a strong feeling this teacher threatens you - you are feeling a little insecure that you have to be so vile. Be a better person - we are all teachers, and we are all to support each other - not to tear each other down - all bets were off with you when you posted not only once but twice - as I said, Narcissistic behavior! None of us have an issue with this gentleman making himself at home while casually chatting with us in his free time! Be better, or bugger off!!! Thank for you for the comedy! + I would like to have a meeting with you if you don't mind of course. I'm just wondering, will there be any fees? I've just become a member, the price appeared in my local currency, even the ultimate membership would be nothing in dollars 😅 I'm not really experienced with that KZbin membership thing. I don't know if it's the same across the globe or if it's kinda region customised.

Thank you ever so much for becoming a member and I really appreciate your support regardless how little it is. I will organise a 'Members Only' meeting in the coming weeks and plan to organise a bi-weekly online meeting for members from the New Year. During the meetings, members will be able to ask me directly to have a look at their teaching profile or seek support one way or another.

Teaching skills aside, this non-native teacher being inferior has affected me a lot more psychologically than I’d like to admit. A colleague of mine wrote a paper on how it can create a severe case of imposter syndrome and even lose their overall identity of being a teacher. This has also made me doubt my abilities countless times despite being aware that I can bring a lot to the table, sometimes even more than a non-so experienced ‘native’ teacher. I understand that some companies do not want to deal with visa issues and that’s why they want a native. However, while I admit my shortcomings of not having lived the same life of a native, it still is extremely devastating to spend thousands of classroom hours and still being rejected because I was born in a different country.
@MY-zx6lz15 күн бұрын
I have to disagree with you on that fact - I will tell you why - I was in Oman for six months - I am a native speaker with University papers - I had my visa and all - it was not going to cost any school anything to hire me, as most of the time I was in a particular country - this was what I came upon - Most schools hired Senegal, Thai, and Indian to teach English as a second language even when they asked for native speakers. it's all about financial gain for the schools. I do not believe in the shortcomings that you speak of. I saw the same in Turkiye and a few more countries. What you are running into is that many people in your culture are in this field, and you have lots of competition. That's what it boils down to. Most Native speakers are being set aside simply for the reason of having to pay proper salaries. Has nothing to do with being born in the wrong country and not being inferior. As mentioned, it has to do with what a school is willing to pay a teacher - I see many schools that advertise for Native and hire non for lesser salaries. Now turn the tables on Native speakers and imagine how they feel being set aside when they are more qualified and set aside because of money! Goes both ways : )

@@MY-zx6lz I mean I know that this happens in a lot of schools. It is discriminatory, whether it is done to native or non-native teachers. However, what I was referring to was in terms of qualifications (CELTA/DELTA) when I can show that I am more qualified but still not hired sometimes because I am non-native. Anyway, thankfully I haven’t worked and don’t work with schools that discriminate based on country or only hire because they want to pay less. I do agree that it is a sad reality.

You may wish to take an MPhil but you may wish to do so after you have completed the CELTA. Personally, I didn't have an MA until a number of years after completing the CELTA. With the CELTA, you learn a lot of practical skills, while with an MA you will learn a lot of theory.

I agree! Unfortunately, exploitation exists in many countries - one downfall is parents complained that their children were not learning oe understanding the teachers. The reason was hiring a second language teacher at lower salaries and poor pronunciation; most got their certification on some platform for 40 euros. Therefore, people who obtain a certified college or university degree where never considered. I found this frustrating. I decided to go independently. I appreciate the videos you post, and thank you for your point of view.
@mohammadwaleed1116 күн бұрын
Thank you, Martin, for your efforts. I totally get your point. I just wanna share some other perspectives. Firstly, when I asked about this, I didn't mean it was kinda racist or "the country you were born lottery" sort of thing. I was just wondering about that since in business in generalnot just ESL, it's all about the value you offer and they can argue and say a native teacher provides more value in terms of pronunciation and accent or even the English proficiency in general (yh, there are some natives who maybe reached a 100% of a native teacher's language proficiency, but it's not everyone, probably not the majority) and tbh I don't have any problem with that, so if you're going to pay him 15$ for example, and pay me 10$, okay fair enough and I believe people should perceive it as a racist act or something (yh, I would be happy if they offer me the same rate😅). Of course, I'm against "exploitation," like what happened to me when I got offered 2.4$ per hour!😂 by a certain company, which I don't wanna mention it's name, while they offered natives 10$. Also, there's another perspective: "Alright, that's what is supposed to happen, but will I be able to get enough students on Preply, for example, and it's likes if I set my rate on 20$?" I can't really say anything about this since I haven't tried it myself. Also, I'm haven't even completed my first year on the platform. So, from your experience, Martin, how difficult would I be for a non-native teacher to get enough students on such a high rate? Sorry for my long comment, tho. Thanks in advance!
@ELTExperiences16 күн бұрын
I appreciate your insight and feedback, but it is generally a topic that I feel uncomfortable discussing, particularly regarding how there is some form of discrimination in South Korea about teachers and their perceived value or lack of it just based upon their origin. In terms of Preply, look at how much you are willing to charge for your services. There will be students who are willing to pay for your services regardless your rate.
