Trump triggers the left over NATO members’ failure to pay their fair share for their defense. Once again, the globalists are alarmed that President Trump would dare to challenge NATO members to step up once he resumes office in January 2025. Not only have most of them failed to maintain defense spending at 2% of their GDP, but they depend on the U.S. to fund NATO’s operations as well. The U.S. has $34 trillion in debt largely because we pay for Europe’s protection since the Cold War. What a racket. Canada needs to step up. Canadians live in a veritable treasure house, are here in Alberta so similar to Americans and should be paying over our 2%. Placing Denmark amongst the "deadbeats" for its 1.7% contribution is a bit rich. Denmark is one of the USA's oldest allies. The two have the longest unbroken diplomatic relationship in the world, beginning in 1801. Denmark always punches above its weight and has always been ready to send to troops of the highest caliber to fight in whatever silly war the US concocted. In fact, little Denmark routinely has more boots on the ground per capita than even the US itself. At the time of the first Gulf War, had Denmark's Maersk not offered their ships' services (absolutely free of charge) to the Pentagon - Desert Storm would have been off to a very bumpy and delayed start. If the US homeland was ever under threat - you can bet your ass Denmark would step up to the plate.

As a European, I kind of wish US would leave NATO because we have been slacking on our own defense since the end of the cold war. We definitely need to spend more on our defense and it's been discussed in my country for a long time, so I agree there. However, let's not forget who last called on NATO's article 5, namely the US after 9/11. Even countries that WASN'T in NATO came to help you then. And it was all for nothing basically. It's true that some NATO countries don't reach % target, but unlike the US military almost none of them are funding an expeditionary capability. That is very resource intensive and costly. This is a capability the US chose to have. If you're gonna have troops in a hundred countries, then yeah.. It's gonna cost you.

The US is the only country that has used article 5 of NATO. Europe did not want to go into Iraq or Afganistan, but still the EU did go in to support the US "war on terror". So yes EU would help the US.
