I have one in the middle of a molle belt with a rocket pouch each side and a modified MTP ammo grab bag sat on top of it. Good little bags imo.

Getting ready for the second season of use with mine. I've just picked apart the stitching that makes the divided pair of internal pockets on the right hand side. It's freed up lots of more packable space, with room now for spare laces, walkman radio and earphones, extra matches, first-aid kit in baccy tin, sighting compass, GPS, headlamp and compeed blister pouch. The section on the right hand side has an extra layer of padding compared with the left that just has an outer of unlined proofed cordura. Could be useful for delicate opticals or electronics. The detachable side pouches (FLAP, POUCH - FIELD PACK) really annoyed me last year - too small for useful bottles/flasks and they catch in the bushes. Both have been removed, and I've found the molle webbing on the main bag to be really useful for securing a camera tripod. Just for completeness; OS maps, notebooks, pencils and magnifying glass fit neatly in the left hand divided section, the main section has lunch box, 500cc thermos, emergency orange bag, "survival blanket", handwipes, tissues, 10x25 folding binos and there's still room for a snack or two. Excellent bags.

I have one of these. I love it. It sucks that the shipping to the US from the UK is so expensive. If I ever take a trip to the UK, I’m going to visit every military surplus shop within driving distance. The UK military really has some nice Kit

Superb bag for it's originally intended purpose - to carry a gas mask and associated bits and pieces. So far as it's use as a "bug out bag' - it is NO GOOD AT ALL! It is too small, the wrong shape and the flap will not stay open when you want it to. Overall it is too big and clumsy to fix onto another rucsac and too small, even as a daysac to contain everything required for a 20 - 24 hour day out. Even with little more than a basha and a cookset in it the diagonal shoulder strap makes the whole thing awkward, clumsy and inhibiting when strapped to a thigh for stability. When not strapped to a thigh it is even worse and you are more likely to hit yourself in the face with it than carry it comfortably on one hip. Personally I would remove the small side pockets, attach then to my belt and throw the rest of it away.

Sounds like you need to reconfigure your bug out bag. Try putting things in that have dual purposes. I have about a weeks worth in mine and that is including shelter.

Perhaps at 74 years old I am getting somewhat long in the tooth to "reconfigure", as you put it, the items I have collected, adapted, remade and invented over the years. Not sure what you mean by dual purpose either! Most, if not all of my bug out bits and pieces are and remain, multipurposed, which made trying to come to terms with an awkwardly shaped, inappropriately furnished bag such as the one in question all the more annoying. As a matter of interest the bag I was unfortunate enough to own was adapted, severely by all accounts, by a cyclist friend of mine who I gave it to some two years ago. I understand he fared no better with it!
