I am a musician, and have played in the 80's metal, rock etc...i have heard world music from Africa to Egypt, and this...THIS SONG is breathtaking. Her version of this is haunting. My japanese wife said it is a traditional song from Okinawa. So beautiful. Music is the language of Earth. You don't need to understand what is being sung, rather, you feel the vocals, emotion and the key of the music. Just amazing. You should also good The Boom, who wrote this.

Kazufumi Miyazawa

She was then and is now, beautful and so talented. To see her smile at her partner is wonderful and his playing is so precise to hers. They are so perfect on this version.. I have studied this language for two years now and I am still an absolute novice. Okinawa has it's own dialect, like the welsh or cornish variations, but I really don't think knowing the language is very important.. The song is so emotional and Rimi is so, so, good, it's why I cry for no real reason.. EDIT:: Everything I thought was true, isn't... Her husband is the drummer (shock, horror) and she's a Tokyo girl who moved to Okinawa when her singing career failed, at first.. Still, her Okinawa version is based on her years there and she's still such a beautiful woman with such a beautiful and clear voice... I think I don't really care about anything other than the stunning noise she makes.

Year 3 and I've reached the standard of a child first entering the school system.. I'm seen as a 5 year old at the age of 62... Ah well.. Such is....
English Lyrics: Just as my fingernails are dyed with the pigment from the balsam flowers, my heart is dyed with the teachings of my parents. The deigo flower has blossomed, and it has called the wind, and the storm has arrived. The deigo flowers are in full bloom, and they have called the wind, and the storm has come. The repetition of sadness, like the waves that cross the islands. I met you in the Uji forest. In the Uji forest I bid farewell to Chiyo. Island song, ride the wind, with the birds, cross the sea. Island song, ride the wind, carry my tears with you. The deigo blossoms have fallen, soft ocean waves tremble. Fleeting joy, like flowers carried by the waves. To my friend who sang in the Uji forest. Beneathe the Uji, bid farewell to Yachiyo. Island song, ride the wind, with the birds, cross the sea. Island song, ride the wind, carry my love with you. To the sea, to the universe, to God, to life, carry on this eternal dusk wind. Island song, ride the wind, with the birds, cross the sea. Island song, ride the wind, carry my tears with you. Island Song, ride the wind, with the birds, cross the sea. Island song, ride the wind, carry my love with you.

Good translation. But those first two lines are not in the song. Never have been. Also, uji is the Okinawan word for sugarcane
@HananoKobeya11 ай бұрын
The lovers had taken refuge in a cave beneath a sugar cane forest to escape the war. [ In the Uji forest, I bid farewell to Chiyo ] "Uji" means "sugar cane". "Chiyo" means "forever". In a cave beneath the sugarcane forest, We bidded farewell to each other forever.

@@jordielninopolla750 war, in whatever the form, in whenever the period, at however it is conducted, for whatever the reason is evil. There is no justifying such unscrupulous violence or propagation of animosity. The fact remains that the Okinawans were devastated by the battles that took place in their homes and their tales still haunt the minds of people now. Just as there can never be justifying the unbridled violence against the south east Asia and China in the hands of the Japanese during the sino-japanese wars and ww2. It is important that we live on with these harrowing memories not as a means to encourage hatred, but as a stern lesson that war brings nothing but grief, pain, and destruction. We are people. We are humanity. And how we conduct ourselves determine the level of progress and culture of our kind.
