Loved it....the indigo powder that I have is green n colour..
@chromaticnature3 жыл бұрын
The green indigo powder you have is unfermented ground indigo leaf, the blue powder that I use is the pigment extract from fermented indigo leaf. You can use your green powder to dye fabric, but the method for using it is different. I haven't tried using the green indigo powder to dye fabric yet, but I want to in the future. From what I know, you don't need to make a vat like I did in this video. You can just mix the green powder with warm water and soak the fabric in it. But the color you get with the green powder will be different, it will be more teal and lighter, and you will need to use more powder than I did. Also, I think it works better on silk/wool (protein fibers) than on cotton. Try using a small amount of the powder on a little piece of fabric first and see what happens.

Greeting from Australia Love all your videos Very personable. Can I ask how much water was in you final vat? Do you think would work with henna instead of fructose?
@chromaticnature Жыл бұрын
Hello! Thank you for watching 😄. There was about 4.5 gallons of water in my indigo vat. Henna can be used instead of fructose in this type of vat. A couple things to be aware of when using henna, it can affect the color that you get because it is itself a dye. It gives an orange color, so the blue color you get will be less cool in tone. I have heard of people first using the henna as a dye, and only once the color from the henna has been used up, then using it in an indigo vat. Also, an indigo vat with henna takes longer to develop and is at its strongest 2 or even 3 days after being set up.

Hii, the Indigo powder im getting at amazon is green colored and not blue it says dried leaf powder is it okay to use it?
@chromaticnature3 ай бұрын
The green indigo powder you ordered is unfermented ground indigo leaf, the blue powder that I use is the pigment extract from fermented indigo leaf. You can use the green powder to dye fabric, but the method for using it is totally different. You don't need to make a indigo vat like I did in this video. You just mix the green powder with warm water and soak the fabric in it, leave the fabric soaking for a while, but stir it around often if you want the color to be even. The color you will get with the green powder will be different, it will be more teal and lighter, and you will need to use much more powder than I did. Try using a small amount of the powder on a little piece of fabric first to test it. Beware this powder will stain your hands if you don't wear gloves, and while it comes off of skin pretty quickly, it stains your fingernails permanently.

Thank you! I found this method on the Dharma Trading Co. website. I've seen another version where actual fruit is used instead of fructose. I guess there is a lot of different ways to do it!
@NotSoKomal3 жыл бұрын
@@chromaticnature No. I wasn't talking about that basically you created VAT and then dissolved it in more water. Generally VAT is prepared one big pot or preferred size pot And then according to the amount of water all the ingredients are added.

Can we expect red dye from you Mis
@chromaticnature3 жыл бұрын
I want to make videos dyeing with many different dyes, so I will definitely be making red dye too. I've used Cochineal dye before and really liked the color I got. It gives a rich fuchsia color, but I know by adding other ingredients the color can be shifted to be more red. Next time I dye with Cochineal, I will film it and make it into a video. Thank you for watching!
