I realize that this is an older video, but I still want to comment and say thank you. This video is a lifesaver. I am becoming more knowledgable of black hair maintenance for my daughter. I'm soon going to be the mother of a mixed baby girl, and these videos have helped me better understand, and become more aware of the community. I love your videos and will be referring back to many of them in about 2 months. 😍😍

Lots of useful information for the newbies. I've always been natural, but many of these terms became popular with the rise of the KZbin natural hair community. I was overwhelmed at first and know I would have benefited greatly with all of this info in one place. Great job 👍🏾

I've been natural almost my whole life. I had it for 18 years, October 2011 i had my first relaxer just because i u wanted to know what it felt like. 😂😂 After 3 years i started transitioning just becauae i rathered my natural hair. I big chopped in January 2015. My hair grew without me taking proper care if it. October 2018 i did a tapered cut on my hair and now May 2020 almost 2 years later my hair is at the lingeat that i have ever seen it. I started following this channel early last year and i have seen a difference in my hair using most of your tips. This video was very informative 👍

natural hair: hair whose texture hasn’t been altered by chemical straighteners, including relaxers and texturises. transitioning: process of growing out your natural texture before cutting off the processed or damaged ends. Big Chop: process of cutting off the relaxed or permed ends of one’s hair when she is transitioning from chemically processed hair to natural hair. relaxed hair: a hair relaxer is a lotion or cream that makes the hair easier to straighten and manage. it reduces the curl by breaking down the hair strand and chemically altering the texture. hair porosity: is your hair’s ability to absorb moisture and is broken down into three categories: low, normal and high. low porosity: cuticles are a little tight and pretty resistant to receiving water and moisture normal porosity: holds moisture and shine for an extended period of time. high porosity: hair absorbs product quickly but loses the moisture just as fast. hair density: how thin or thick your hair is collectively. ( thin, medium and thick) hair width: how thick or thin a single hair strand is. ( coarse, medium, fine) slip: the term most naturals use when they are discussing products that help detangle their hair (mostly conditioners); if a product has good detangling properties meaning the consistency of the product helps to loosen tangles along hair strands, then you will hear someone say, “this product has good slip” wash n go: when you wear your hair in its natural curl pattern, without manipulating the style with tools, braids or stretching. Pre Poo: treatment done BEFORE shampooing your hair to help aid against a shampoos tendency to strip hair off its natural oils and moisture. sulfate free shampoo: mild detergents that don’t completely wash away your hair’s moisture. cowash: “short for conditioner only washing”; it means skipping shampoo and relying solely on conditioner. deep conditioning: a hair care practice that can restore and maintain the strength of the hair strand to it can better withstand day-to-day stressors without sustaining damage. protein treatment: boost the hair with variety of nutrients and proteins to help reconstruct and strengthen hair strands; having a protein-packed strands is a good way to maintain your overall hair health. braidout: a way of stretching out your natural hair by braiding it and after the style sets (dries), taking it down. protective style: a style that tucks the end of your hair away from being exposed to damaging agents such as heat, and constant manipulation. curly hair/wash day: the routine you create to manage and maintain your hair before, during and after cleansing your hair. hair regimen: what you do to maintain healthy natural/curly haie. hair types: consist of 4 different hair types/textures TYPE 1: straight hair TYPE 2: wavy hair TYPE 3: curly hair TYPE 4: coily/kinky hair
