I wore locks for 11 years(June1999 to December 2010.It was an experience,a journey. I got compliments and stares with negative comments. People treated me differently as my hair grew longer.People locked their car doors,and grabbed their purses whenever passed by.I prepared myself for that several months before getting my hair locked.Keep up the great work.

Don't see why anyone would call your hair nappy you have a nice hair texture even when you had a fro
@Mikayla3207 жыл бұрын
Sometimes it's just jealousy and people act like all black hair is the same which is nappy and people also use it as an insult. I've had people tell me that my hair is really curly and then when they're mad at me they will say that it's nappy.
@WillOnAWhim7 жыл бұрын
😂 I would agree that the beauty industry for black hair from the jump was about getting rid of any curl, tress, kink, or coil. Decades later, we're dealing with a lot of issues and having to break away from standards that don't allow us to just be black and beautiful.
@WillOnAWhim7 жыл бұрын
HATERS GONE HATE. Nappy is no longer an insult for me. The power of an insult lies in how it affects the person it was thrown at.

You have stamped and certified my mini twists journey for the year. I am getting a trim this weekend! I think my hair has done its best when its “out” and not in super sleek styles and when it’s protected...so having the freedom to style it but keep it protected is amazing. Thank you for sharing your journey, i plan to document mine bc of u! Also, more women could stand to learn hair care from men, we can’t all have a do the most maintenance routine.

When I was 16 I decided to grow my hair out. I wore braids for 10 months. Now that was in 96 when there wasn't as many products for natural black hair so if I didn't use activator, I'd just blow dry it straight or get it straighten. I even learned how to press my own hair. Some people in my family would feel the need to make comments but I never went back. Thank God for the natural hair care products that are out now and more of us are embracing our hair.

Genetically why do you think you have your hair texture? What black people have it? I'm 1/4 white and I have straight up unmanageable shrinking 4c.
@WillOnAWhim7 жыл бұрын
I think 4c hair is beautiful! It's been portrayed as unmanageable for years and years because it's done the perm industry good. 😩 But black people can have a range of hair textures that I think should all be celebrated. I don't attribute my hair texture to any other race. I'm black. My hair texture is probs just a result of the random nature of DNA. 😊

You have a wonderful story and a beautiful soul. You also have a gorgeous head of hair. I have to applaud you for sharing the mental part of your journey. I have had my share of former "mental terrorists dressed as friends" (big ups to tracyg for that quote) who tried to dampen my spirit and passion, of educating those who want to learn, regarding health hair care. Yes, we all have other talents, interests and hobbies in our individual lives, but our hair is part of who we are. Keep educating and uplifting brother.🤗🤗

A way i cope with the time is Snapchat streaks itll also help me gain a sense of consistency but im not going to cut it at all tbh

What was some of the things u use in ur hair to make it grow out bc I have braids right now and I'm using this hair oil and Indian oil to make it grow
@WillOnAWhim7 жыл бұрын
Honestly....I think what really made my hair grow was water. Nourishing your hair with oil and other vitamins is important, but keeping your hair hydrated prevents breakage. For the longest time, I would just wet my hair with warm water and immediately follow it up with coconut oil. It worked wonders ✨

No matter your hair type, I'd say keeping your hair healthy is most important. Make sure your moisturizing as often as possible, trimming when necessary, protecting your hair with braids, twists, buns etc and with satin scarves/caps/pillowcases at night, deep conditioning regularly, and making sure your hair gets a good cleaning every once in a while!

. So I'm shedding a lot and I don't know why. Tips?
@WillOnAWhim8 жыл бұрын
So there are a few things that might be contributing to excessive shedding. 1. Overmanipulation - styling your hair too often can stress out your follicles and cause strands to fall out 2. Dry hair - sometimes lack of moisture results in brittle hair that easily breaks and sheds. YOU GOTTA KEEP THAT WATER IN! 😂 3. Stress - If you've been experiencing regular stress from just living life...you just might see extra shedding.
