Great question Jennifer. In my experience with math, I have always considered that 0 is NOT a natural number, however, this is not something that is universally agreed upon in the math communinity, although, if all the mathematicians in the world had to vote whether or not zero was a natural number, I believe that the majority would vote that it is not.
