My three trends for 2025: 1. The rise of white Rhone varietals (I say this every year though). 2. The rebirth of the Grampians region with great wines beyond just Best's, Seppelt and Mount Langi Ghiran. 3. The nail in the coffin for Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
@Differentdrop13 күн бұрын
@@christophermullan3861 love it! 1 & 2 go nicely together, love what the likes of Ben Haines, Rory Lane and others have done with textural Rhone-inspired whites. And couldn’t agree more re: Marlborough - people apparently still buy it but not through us 🤔

Michael Corbett's McLaren Vale Syrah is very very good

@@coachshieldz6818 oh absolutely. We love Aussie Shiraz / Syrah for what it’s worth, especially stunning wines like MJC’s. But the market trend is undeniable. Thanks for watching and for the comment 🙏

Different styles, different grape varieties. Talk to people been in the wine industry 50 years, they tell you, wine has always been susceptible to fashions and fads and with that, wine making techniques have changed dramatically over 30 years. Style of reds and whites has become more refined. We don't oak our wines like we used to. Remember years ago, some winemakers adding 'oak chips' to chardonnay? Would be interesting to compare the gold medal winners from the Royal Adelaide Show from 1990 and those of today.

Yea great shout, that would be a fascinating comparison. I think there are trends for sure which come and go, and then there’s more percent evolution. Hopefully the push towards more balanced and drinkable wines isn’t temporary!

I can’t stand wines that are over-oaked! Great to see those other formats gaining more popularity.

@@wce_fan yea, totally agree. I can’t drink the stuff. Love a bit of clay or concrete 😎

I'd say the government not taxing the ever-loving shit out of everything during a cost of living crisis would go a long way to assist the youths to buy and drink more wine. Unfortunately it's not a luxury that's a priority when you're scrabbling just to afford to make rent or buy a house.

Completely agree. Too much complacency and not enough focus / obsession on the customer!

My 2025 trend, well priced grenache will outsell pinot. Shiraz is dead, they ignored the aussie customer for years and sent it all to china and jacked uo the price, hello Penfolds. i dont feel too bad for them and cabernet has a cheeky revival.😊
@Differentdrop12 күн бұрын
Wow that is a big call but I love it! Grenache is Australia’s most important grape we reckon, but having said that, Aussie Pinot is ascendant and going from strength to strength. Por que no los dos??
@Stebbo2510 күн бұрын
@@Differentdrop true that, I had the privilege of trying Lowestoft la Maison Pinot 2019 and Liam bloody nailed it. Epic Aussie Pinot, love it.

I despise the term “natural wine”. Marketing term to add $$ on mostly faulty wines. Mousy, Brett heavy and poorly made.

Sadly, you're not wrong. Hence the best producers in the category getting away from the label as much as they can!
