These are techniques I used to grow my hair to waistlength - they all focus on a central theme: length retention. I tend not to stress supplements for growth and longer hair simply because the crux of slow growth in our communities is length retention, as opposed to growth. In Black communities, we tend to have more of a problem with length retention than we do with growth. Unfortunately, our hair textures are exceedingly prone to breakage. Mitigating the amount of breakage we face will certainly help, with regard to length retention. The more length we retain, the longer our hair will become. Put simply, growing long natural hair can be reduced to retaining length I.e. not allowing our hair to break off.

Video Summary 1. Protective Styling 2 weeks at a time. 2. Protect from elements (scarves, hats, Shea Butter spf). 3. Gentle Cleansers without sulfate (co-wash , water wash, or vinegar ). 4. stimulation (massage or workout for blood flow). 5.Clean scalp. 6. Cocunut oil to hair not scalp. 7. Finger detaingle with oil if needed (no combs or piks). 8. Improve manageability (oil to hair helps manage hair easy). 9. Keep heat to minimum and use heat protector (if blow dry focus on roots). 10. Use extensions (like Marley hair) to cover hair for like cook outs. 11. Use protien treatments. :)

I have 4C hair...and it's a bit too short to get into a "tucking" style so I just leave it to do as it pleases. Generally this has been beneficial especially when I massage my scalp and hair with olive oil. Just a friendly addition to this video. I'm a big fan of this channel, thanks for allowing me to take better care of my hair and to love what nature has given me. 😊

i love that you wear your hair out and have fun with it more since you've reached your goal length. I feel like most naturals are too used to sticking strictly with their regimen, tucking in their ends 24/7 never getting to appreciate their lengths :/ . it's good to take care of your hair and be cautious but if growing longer/ healthier hair means not seeing your hair then i don't want long hair
@NaturallyHigh
@NaturallyHigh 8 жыл бұрын
Thank yoooou! Well in my case, I have very breakage-prone hair so my current routine of wearing my hair out is not without its drawbacks: my hair's not really getting much longer. I think it's grown about 1-2 inches in the past 7 months or so... As soon as I start protective styling it grows like wildflowers, though! But what's the point of having long hair if you NEVER wear it out!? :) X

Also, if you have fine hair, use henna. that also fills in the gaps (permanently) so you hair retain length a bit more easier. Fine haired naturals have the hardest time retaining length since that strand are so fine (not thin). That is what helped me.
@LiciousTina88
@LiciousTina88 7 жыл бұрын
how do you apply the henna.. I have naturally fine hair.. seems like everything causes breakage. so I wear wigs or sew ins..but this you speak of.. I must know please!
@West_Indian_Aiyah
@West_Indian_Aiyah 7 жыл бұрын
There are several ways you can mix it. I apply it after cleaning my hair and before deep conditioning. I steep green tea & slippery elm bark tea and let that cool a bit (green tea helps the dye release a bit quicker), pour the powder in a glass or plastic bowl (do not use metal tools of any kind) while whisking it with plastic fork to get the lumps out, i then add silk amino acids i got from lotioncrafter (dot) com (this is optional, i add SAA to everything, it makes my hair so soft). You can add any oils of your choosing to help the henna rinse out easier while still getting the benefits, the slippery elm tea helps as well. I make the mixture before prepooing and washing my hair so it can sit for a bit and the dye can release. edited to dd: I forgot to mention, i leave it on for 3-12 hours depending on the time of day/night i do it, lol. cover your head with a plastic cap (or bag) after applying it.

Interesting...I protective style my hair a lot...however just a couple weeks ago I started my own challenge of strictly no combs or brushes (except when parting hair) and just finger detangling...let me tell you I promise you It Looks like my hair grew OVERNIGHT. It seemed to APPEAR thicker. I was used to losing TONS of unnecessary strands in the combs (not shed, breakage), and that was minimized since stopping combs. We will see if it continues to grow thicker tho.

Soo....the last few weeks I've been scrambling around KZbin trying to find your channel because KZbin deleted all my subscriptions a while back and now my hair is long enough that i want to keep it stretched as much as possible. I nearly cried when I found your videos... I wish I had seen them when I was younger. I seriously dragged my hair through hell and lost 7 inches because of it. I'm 18 and I'm trying to grow my hair again. I used your detangling method and it worked with a really small amount of shedding (it could fit in a baby's hand)! Thank you so much for making these videos. I hope to grow my hair as fast and healthy as yours.

Absolutely fantastic tips. You forgot 1 thing.......DRINK LOTS OF WATER. lol lol, I actually am a vitamin enthusiast as well. Bamboo, Biotin, multi, vit D, Calcium, Black seed oil, Fish oil, MSM, collagen are all part of my daily intake, but like you, once I reach my goal, lots of those will stop. Because they making me broke. Anyway great tips, finger detangling is by far the best tip I need to apply, because my shedding is insane, I truly think there's breakage included with my shedding, so your right I'm setting aside my combs........BTW My protective style is minitwist, it's not really a protective style it's more so "My Forever Style"

Believe Me when I say it only took 5 months to grow to the length of your before picture on your vid thumbnail. I was shooketh .Now I'm on the road of growing hair as long as yours. I think by the end of the year I would be able to reach my goal. Keep up with the great vids but these methods need to be preached to all black girls across the globe😁👍❤❤❤❤.

Thanks boo. I keep my hair braided in individuals for 3 months. I did this last year and did it 3x's. By the time I took out my hair man, WOW, I had crop and everyone noticed. Before going into braids again, I'd wash and DC (i'll now add oil rinsing to my regimen) and then i'll let it air dry 50% then use the tension method for the rest. My hair is thick and full.

Hey girl! You're videos are so good, I just had to subscribe! I have one question: what were you saying about putting a bag over head?
@NaturallyHigh
@NaturallyHigh 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The bag prevents you from getting oil all over your pillow and face. X

Ethnic is Beauty. Most ethnic products I've run across are in the Beauty Isle along with non-ethnic hair products. There are stores that separate the products to an Ethnic Isle, but not all.

Thanks for the tips. Although it took me a long time to get on with it, finger detangling is the way to go for me. I do apply a little hot oil and melted Shea butter on my scalp when massaging and apply on my hair when I have twists only once a week so my scalp doesn't get itchy. Hot oil treatments work wonders on my hair and I always start with massaging my scalp down to my ends. Most people do the other way round but I find I get better results with my hair that way.

Thanx for sharing, can you tell us a little more about the protein treatments that you have used in the past and how you used them. Thanx in advance.

Hey! My pleasure! In a video or as a comment. I've only really ever used two: ApHogee 2-Step protein treatment and Hydratherma Naturals protein conditioner. Both are great! With ApHogee, you always have to follow up with a deep conditioner. Hope this helps!

I am finding WOHW regimen most helpful - I was afraid going natural will make me face a Brillo pad like hair texture but upon doing WOHW on my 4 month transitioning to natural - my 4c natural hair turned soooo softer!!! Was AMAZED!!! And happy. ( DId on Natural then, now on Texturised hair, still doing WOHW and learning anew, love it so far! BTWay - WOHW stands for WATER ONLY HAIR WASHING - set up by a KZbinr - kzbin.info OR kzbin.info/www/bejne/goiXln2hd76Hqas)
