Robert Plomin, a behavior geneticist from King’s College, argues that parenting differences don’t significantly alter a child’s development. Therapist Ann Pleshette Murphy responds that parenting can’t be dismissed as random: Environmental effects may be difficult to measure but should not be discounted. An excerpt from the debate "Parenting Is Overrated."

Human nature is the taboo part of nature & nurture. 50:50 I think is more a social agreement so as to not rile people.

@@ideapowerfulweapon I think you're right that many disregard the genetic component --- perhaps because genetics and epigenetics are difficult to measure/comprehend. For some human features, such as IQ, the 50 : 50 is based on research findings. On the other hand, in cases of psychological damage attributable to traumatic (CSA, PSA) parenting, perpetrators typically blame nature = "she was always a difficult child", "he was always rebellious / timid / violent / whatever". As to "riling", anti-social media has made the most vocal critics of the fact-aversive subsection of the population.

@@Tony-Blake agree.... How do we measure that...? especially considering things like intelligence as well as other qualities greatly impact your environment. Just retired nursing and boy is it evident that some people greatly enhance their environment to improve health...

@@ideapowerfulweapon How do we measure what? The N:N ratio? Twin studies = equivalent DNA, different outcomes. As a physician, it has been more my observation that too many individuals ignore reality (health guidelines, lockdown, social distancing, masks) in ways that negatively impact their health.

Do you know any examples of evil parents having good kids ? Like dictators, or some serial killers kids happen to grow up to be doctors, and invent cure for something, something in that sense? I would prefer a historical example so i can show it to my friend, thank you.
