Here in the UK the first snow flake falls and everything shuts down, the trains stop running and the roads are gridlocked,hate to think what would happen if we ever got a real blizzard..Great images.

Blizzards can be fun... I guess it depends a lot on how prepared everyone is for them. We know they're coming so we're usually pretty prepared.

My favorite experience in GTNP was last Spring in late April. I was looking for otters along the Snake River and pulled over at the river access downstream from the Oxbow. I walked to the river from the parking area and stopped to read the signs by the access ramp. Upstream the ground rises up and I couldn’t see past it for otters, so I decided I would park my butt there. I took three steps past the sign and this massive head rose up out of the brush a bit to my right. It was a female moose laying there, enjoying the morning. Since I was within 20 yards, I slowly backed off across the ramp and sat on one of the rocks nearby, I was now about 30 yards from her. I took a couple quick shots, then sat as still as I could. She didn’t feel disturbed by presence and lowed her head again. I spent 20 mins sitting there, just her and me enjoying the river flowing past. It was awesome sharing that area of the park with her.

Great video. I’ve watched all your videos and I really like your laid back style. When you go searching for critters and you take these casual walks through a remote area to see what you can find, it’s very calming and peaceful. Don’t get why you don’t have way more subscribers. Oh yeah, and by the way, your photography is awesome.

Steve, Love your videos. I flying into Jackson Hole Sunday afternoon, 11/19.17. I have to work in Driggs Idaho on Monday morning. Which leaves me Sunday, Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning to explore the park. You have given me some great inspiration. Thanks.

+William Boles that’s great! Good luck out there, I hope the critters cooperate.

Won´t the snow be blown out, if you crank up the exposure compensation? But that might be ok, since there ins´t too much detail in snow anyway. Nice video, as always.
@SteveMattheis7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! Eventually the snow will get blown out if you raise the exp comp too high. But think of it this way: The camera wants to meter things to a neutral gray exposure (very simplified explanation). So by default the camera will expose a white sheet of paper to look dull and gray (try it!). Same with snow. So you have to tell the camera that you don't want a gray sheet of paper, so you adjust exposure compensation by 2 stops brighter (for example) which then makes the paper (or snow) white.
@MrExel477 жыл бұрын
OK. That makes sense for large white scenes. 2 stops seems quite high, but that depends on the camrea etc. Correct me, if I´am wrong, but in the case that you want to recover details from for instance the plumage of a white bird, one has to dial the exposure compensation down. At least if one uses matrix metering and the bird is just a part of an overall neutral gray picture.
