Interesting watch, you didn't give it a fair go really, and end of the day it still kept you dry. If asking so much from a budget tent next time would be good to see the guy lines out and the tent oriented into the wind. Good video though mate, I've subbed, would like to see more adventures with budget tents!

Are you serious ? A single pole tent, insufficient or even no guy lines at all, and the broad side into a strong wind : what did you expect ? Any such tent would collapse.

Agree. He should have anticipated earlier that there will be strong wind and put guy lines to support those poles.

Agree too, and i did expect this weather but had completely missed putting that rear guide line out (Silly mistake). Although the angle the wind was coming from, it would have made no difference :)

Why didn’t you wait and test it in a hurricane in a more exposed spot? I think under the circumstances it performs very well considering it is side on to the wind , there are no guy lines and it’s the most exposed site possible.

It would have stood up to the wind, if you'd pitched it into the wind, narrow pointy end first.
@praktika1082
@praktika1082 4 ай бұрын
Was there a specific reason you decided to pitch it sideways (where the tent is weakest) to the wind?
@AdventureDadNRP
@AdventureDadNRP 4 ай бұрын
The wind was coming from varying direction, i did think about this when i had pitched that it should have gone length ways more than it was. The wind did change direction and was coming over the tent correctly but it still collapsed in the end. Constantly learning as I go and hoping people can also learn from my mistakes :)

Good vid mate, thanks for sharing! When did you film this? I was on the other side of the valley on the 27th Jan, just above Devils Kitchen, it was brutal! The wind snapped two of the corner pegging points on my Helm 1, it’s just thin cord so can me replaced, but I definitely learnt some lessons. Do you think the naturehike would have faired better if you would have used extra guys?
@AdventureDadNRP

Hey man thanks for watching! It was indeed the 27th Jan i stayed up there, i take it you were in cloud most of the night then! Wind was brutal! Do love staying at the top of the kitchen though 👌

Just some feedback as the test was daring and with the right idea. If you see windtunnel tests they always bolt the tent to the concrete floor that is how they handle 120 + km/h winds. Your tent is only as strong as the holding power to the ground. And it is held to the ground by your guylines and with pegs. There were extra small loops on the wind side (That you showed during the day time). In situations like this is is normal to take the guylines from the side you don't use and add them there. this really could have helped. Or buy some guy rope and bring two/ four more stakes. No need for the plastics on the guylines learn to make a taut line hitch. it is deadsimple and you have yourself extra adjustable. Also it looked like the fly-sheet was not lied properly to the poles in some places. If i remember right there are little like velcro or strings to tie them there these are really important and give the poles more rigidity this will help them hold up better.

And a small addition i know it was a test to go and camp on the peak but that is rarely a good idea. Never camp in valleys/ gullys as cold air and moister will collect there. And never in the path of dips/ saddles on the peaks as wind will rush through these. And the peak kind of speaks for them self right? All wind will go over there. Usually somewhere a little lower down like your breakfast spot looked great.

Thanks for your feedback, its much appreciated and will take note of what you have said. Unfortunatly there doesnt appear to be any tie outs on the Fly to attach to the poles, and i did see i missed a guy rope at the back. Wind was coming from the other side to this but still would have helped to have it! I think the whole thing with the tent not sitting quite right on the poles is due to how difficult it was to put up in this condition. I knew what i was getting into and knew the way down in an emergency and was prepared for the worst. Fortunatly i made it to morning :D Appreciate your comment! Have a good day!

Lad there's no way that's 40mph wind you'd hardly be able to stand up in it and talk. Where's your wind meter readings? Or is it KZbin wind?
@AdventureDadNRP
@AdventureDadNRP 6 ай бұрын
Hey, your right i didnt have a reading for this, it was based off forecast. I did mention that in regards to the 60mph winds, with the exposure i was in, it really wasnt far off :) Ill be sure to get an Anenometer for future :D
@iamchriswhelan
@iamchriswhelan 6 ай бұрын
@@AdventureDadNRP Make sure you do purchase one coz it will open your eyes up to what actual wind speeds are, you can't go off forecast coz they ain't trust worthy either. When you think it's 50mph it's most probs about 30mph. Have a look at my latest video and you'll see 40mph wind on an anemometer and see it's pushing all over the show mate.

Naturehike tents just aren’t built to handle bad weather especially on summits They shouldn’t be allowed to market some of their tents as 4 season because they just aren’t which could potentially get people into trouble if they take the marketing at face value Another thing is I don’t think those winds hit 50/60mph because you’d barely be able to stand up in those winds especially because you didn’t measure the winds with an anemometer And that tent would of been shredded or ripped out the ground in those sorts of winds Don’t think people realise how strong 50/60mph winds are
@AdventureDadNRP
@AdventureDadNRP 6 ай бұрын
Thanks for your input i agree with you on this. I did go out expecting some issues, and was prepared to get off if i needed too. These tents will certainly put some people in a bad spot if the wind picks up. In regards to the wind speeds though, this was based from forecast and was trying to give an estimate based off that. Will for sure be best getting a Anemometer to be sure next time 😊
