You come from a town that carries a deep fear and hatred for demons. While you were no stranger to fearing them too, because of all the stories you've heard, you always wondered what this hatred for them truly was for. Unfortunately, too many questions from you to your family and peers led to suspicion and rumours being spread about whether you were conspiring with the demons. Soon, these rumours turned into fears, and you found yourself cornered with blades and torches pointed towards you. You managed to escape the town before they could capture you, but the mob of townsfolk was quickly on your trail, demanding your head. Through gritted teeth, you asked for a saviour, for anyone to help you.. and your prayers are answered through the roar of hellfire.

Howdy! Here on a rewatch and decided that I wanted to talk about the things this series made me think about. Spoilers for the next episode, so if you’re new here, ignore me. If you’re rewatching like me, however, feel free to stick around. Or not, I don’t have control over you. So the way that my brain works is that whenever I listen to an audio like this I always create a character to visualize for myself. This time around the character I made, we’ll call her Bela, I envisioned with black hair, blue eyes and white and light blue clothes. I liked this idea because of the contrast against the emperor’s black and dark blue color scheme. A sort of similar, but different type feel that felt like it really leaned into a hidden connection between the two. But something else kept popping up in my mind during this particular bit of character creation; butterflies. Blue butterflies specifically. Like they’d be embroidered in her skirt, or she’d be wearing a ribbon with butterflies in her hair. It felt like there was a little more to this than just the color scheme so I decided to look up the symbolism behind blue butterflies. According to google “The color blue in a butterfly is often thought to symbolize joy, color or a change in luck. Sometimes a blue butterfly is viewed as a wish granter.” All of these seemed pretty good to me. “Might just be the thing these two need.” The came the next episode. Our angel “fRiEnD” provided an even starker contrast against my Bela in terms of the mental visuals I was getting. Obviously her white and light blue chemise and skirt combination made for quite a comparison against Gabriel’s fashionable black attire. But the stronger visual contrast came in the way the light of his halo reflected off of her clothes. I imagined the light being so overpowering that it made the fabric look flat and lifeless. Turning something soft warm into something pretty but uncomfortable. (Kinda like the whole interaction in the beginning.) Furthermore, in the third installment Bela walks around his big city/company in her simple white peasant dress while surrounded by gold skyscrapers at every turn. This poor little butterfly was just forced into a gilded spiderweb by a spider that seems obsessed with clipping and/or repainting her wings to make himself feel stronger. My brain seems to really like to work in metaphor through visuals for some reason and I’m not really mad about. Breaking away from visuals for a moment though, I personally like to headcanon that during her stay with the emperor he assigned a handmaiden to her telling her to “treat her as nothing less than a visiting princess.” But because Bela is so not used to princess treatment, she simply does everything that she was used to doing herself, save for making meals, and treats her handmaiden like a close friend. This way she has more than one form of support in the palace and a confidant she can talk with when the emperor isn’t around. I also imagine that a reoccurring conversation the two have is “why me?” As Bela ponders if everything happening to her is pure luck or destiny.
