Im having a similar (but opposite) issue on my moms 2011 Chrysler 300. AC works great but something is stuck or broken up in the dash, possibly an actuator or maybe blend door, as you get ice cold air on the driver's side but warm to hot air out of the passenger side. The 2nd gen LX platform Chrysler/Dodge 300/Challenger/Charger have very finnicky HVAC systems and her car has already been worked on multiple times for similar issues, air coming out of the bottom only or top only, etc. And theyre a pain in the ass to deal with, having to disassemble and sometimes remove the giant dash just to reveal beey thin, cheap plastic components. By the time you get one thing fixed on the HVAC, something else would break. 😂😂 Glad to see you posting again Bill, ive been a viewer since probably 2009! Your videos and rambles remind me of better times.

I had to make the same repair to my old Mustang a couple years ago. It was easy to find but almost impossible to remove due to it's location. Two of the three mounting bolts weren't that bad to remove but the third bolt was only removed after trying to get multiple different tools on it combined with a LOT of colorful language. Once I finally got it out the new actuator went in easily as I omitted the difficult bolt. Like yours, in order to get it to home itself properly you had to pull the fuse while doing the work and put it back once it was connected. I saw a lot of reviews on the actuator I bought saying it broke almost immediately after installing it. I believe it was due to people not pulling the fuse and the actuator trying to move beyond it's range and breaking teeth off the sprockets because it wasn't properly homed.

I would be curious how similar the plenum design and location is between the Mustangs and Panther cars. There's also a fastener in the Panthers that's difficult to get at.

I once bought a set of SKP upper ball joints for my Suburban, and they completely wore out after like 6 months. Though there wasn't a lick of greese in them after 6 months, so I'm guessing water ingress (Might have to do with my various off road adventures). The lower ball joints are still completely original and in great shape.

Thank you for tuning in over all of those years. I'm not sure about the eclipse, but I don't think this area falls in the direct path. We will probably still see some effects, though. I don't plan to make a video, especially as I will be working.

@@spd1214I took the day off just for this life time event! I'll be driving a couple hours or so to be in the path of 100% totality. Unfortunately since it will be in April, odd are about 70% that it will be overcast for that area. I checked out the eclipse map, and it looks like Bill will be in the path were the sun will be covered in the 85%-95% range.

The old 330,000 mile '98 Suburban had it's drivers side blend door motor fail about 2 years ago. . . Thats it . . . I still haven't replaced it, I just positioned it so that the air comes out of the dash vents.

The Buick had this issue with it's blend door. I never fixed it. I went years of hot, then cold weather before getting rid of the car, but I had to manually actuate the blend door. I took the glove box out and left it out since fixing it wasn't the highest priority. I had to pull off the road to change it since it was quite a stretch to get to the blend door.

The older actuators GM used had a metal shaft pressed into the center of the large gear rather than an entirely plastic gear (as the replacements now have instead). The large gear used crack in one spot from stress/age and then the smaller gear that turns it would eventually land in the crack and no longer reach any teeth. They also used a small potentiometer in the corner to read the location rather than the contact trace.

Regarding the engine light, I had a hard to track down EVAP system leak myself a few years back. I even ran the Ford IDS leak check procedure (where the PCM pulls a vacuum and holds it for a predetermined amount of time), and it passed. Eventually I caught the purge solenoid intermittently getting stuck open. I pulled the electrical connector to it as the PCM was commanding it on, and put my finger on the the inlet and felt vacuum despite the fact it should be closed with no power. New $30 purge solenoid cleared my check engine light.

Although I've never seen one fail, I have some hope that the light might eventually burn out. :-P About a year and a half ago, the gas tank actually fell out of the truck while I was driving it. The racket this made had me thinking something had just come majorly undone in the rear end. I'm actually kind of surprised it didn't sever any of the fuel lines and leave me stranded somewhere. Since (of course) this happened miles from home, I had to hire the repair done. As the mechanic balked at the notion of tracking down the leak, I let it go and haven't been able to work up the enthusiasm to revisit the subject. If ever I do, there will probably be a video.

For how many miles that truck has on it, Im quite impressed how quiet the engine is. Both GM trucks my family has owned had considerable lifter tick at lower mileage. Albeit, they were 5.3L engines.

Luckily I haven't had to replace the blend door on my 2002 Dodge. I did replace the resistor and the blower motor. It would only work on high. And one day the blower motor just quit working. Luckily it wasn't hard. You just take the glove box off. The blend door looks harder.

I rue the day I'll need to do this to the 05 grand caravan. when it's extremely cold out, it likes to stick a bit. after the heat is on for a second it'll come open if you do it again, but anywhere over 40F it's usually fine. however, it'll always stay wherever the dash pot is set, so it doesn't auto-close after the car shuts off. I know some of them do and it's a real PITA.

so im pretty sure the passenger side actuator is on the top side of the hvac box and its dashboard out to change it i have a really high spec 2003 suburban with the center console my passenger side actuator is making the same noise you described and i was quoted a lot of money to change a 30$ part it was all labor and being i have the center console with the bose sound system the subwoofer is in the way so the entire console and so much more has to be removed to get to the driver side actuator it’s in the same place as yours is just basically completely covered my favorite one and im being very sarcastic was the blower motor control module on a 2011 f250 that wasn’t just dashboard out it was also removal of the HVAC box because it’s on the backside and you can’t get it out because it hits the firewall dumb design they had room to place it on the front but didn’t what a job needless to say it got new factory heater and a/c Coors while i had it apparat as they are dashboard out as well lol the way vehicles are made these days is truly crazy

I have to do this on a Park Avenue, similar to the red one that you have. I wonder if the parts are similar? There is something sticking in the blend door; it makes an odd groaning noise. Hopefully they're easily accessible...

They are likely similar. I don't know how difficult they might be to get at, and as there are no more Buicks here, I can't check.

I have a 1989 Buick LeSabre custom same car as yours. You have to keep the pedal all the way to the floor in order to start it and it wont idle. I’m going to check the idle air control valve. Do you think it could be anything else besides the map sensor and the control valve?

It'd be worth checking the most obvious stuff first, if you haven't already: air filter/air box (got a mouse nest or other clog?), fuel system pressure and coolant temperature sensor. If all that seems OK, I'd definitely inspect the IAC motor. The MAP sensor is probably good.

@@tschuuuls486I agree, it may or may not be as reliable as a cable, but the convenience is worth it to me. It turns the fan up when the coolant warms up, ramps the fan down when the cabin has reached my desired temperature, and it can automatically go from heat in the morning to AC in the afternoon when I leave work without me touching anything. Not to mention, after nearly 18 years, one easy to replace $20 part failing doesn't seem unreasonable at all. On the other hand, all those blower motors failing is a little unusual.

It lasted for 16+ years and 260,000 miles...far longer than most people would keep the same vehicle. (I've had Naughty Truck since sometime in 2012, at which time it had about 94,500 miles on it.) I think that's more than fair enough.

@@tschuuuls486 For whatever it's worth (likely not much), I've never been a fan of automatic climate control in a vehicle. I've never cared for the way they manage the fan (run like mad at first, then settle to nearly no airflow at all), nor the way that even when they reach setpoint, there's still a cold or hot "edge" to the interior air and surfaces.

@@uxwbill some of the current generation let you set the auto mode to low, med or high, which sets the aggressiveness to reach temp etc. That's available on teslas for example.
