As farm kids in Southern Saskatchewan Canada my Sisters ' Brothers and I were so fortunate to have the farm work available to us . We were taught that a good meal was something You worked for . After a wash up and a quick grooming we had a sense of pride to sit at the table . Most of us are in our 60s now ' no we all are lol ' but we seldom sit idol. Thank You so much for sharing ❤

I started to make a somewhat snarky comment that the existence of trust fund kids contradicts your teaching here... then I considered that wealth isn't just money, but includes things like happiness and connections with others and I realized that, as usual, you are correct, grandfather. Thank you.

I'm past 70 now. I worked construction for many decade's. It has taken a great toll on my body. I really want to work. Even just cleaning and picking up after myself. My entire family thinks I'm a failure because I don't have money. My children will not help. So I sleep in mouse poop and urine. This is what our American society has done to our families. And it's worse. I may be passing soon and my children still won't call help or anything else. Oh well😮😊 I have my dogs. Jim BCC AZ

Thank you for this much needed teaching. It means a lot more coming from a seasoned Elder. My parents and grandparents showed me by example the importance of working for your sustenance. I'm a metal worker too, but with aircraft aluminum. I retired last Dec. 31st. I miss the work, and my friends, but not the 100 mile a day round trip. I would make hard to get parts in order to keep our aircraft flying and doing their jobs. I worked for the Coast Guard as a civilian aircraft mechanic, and before that I was in the Navy for 20 years, and worked for the airlines after the Navy. If you love what you do, then it doesn't seem like work. I did it for 53 years in all, it's time for a rest. I love your words of wisdom and take them to heart.

In my opinion federal handouts are not good for anyone. I agree with Wally’s story it does cause people to become lazy then you expect the handout, then you don’t know how to survive without it. I totally understand it for short term help but you have to want better to be better. Working gives you purpose in life something to be proud, of to thrive and teach others to have the respect for yourself. I’m sorry for ranting, I’m just an old white woman with old ideas, today it all seems to have went downhill. Wally I love your podcast I get so much out of them and I realize we are all in this together . We need to learn, teach and lean on each other and help each other out. Thank you so very much, you all have a blessed week and stay well.

That old lady has been living between mine and the neighbors home since I took my first breath. We've gotten well acquainted. That's also part of being in the southwest. But the louder she plays that hip hop music after hours, the richer I feel. Ive got enough smarts to tell me whats going on and I'd like to embrace the suck while ive got the opportunity. Thank you Wally for saying it once, all of it, its been appreciated. May you live long and beyond.

I grew up in a workers family in Flanders, Europe, I'm from a very mixed decent (many different teachings coming together / I'm Flamish, Scotsish, German, French, Austrian, Hungarian) but what I was thought is that you don't get anything from nothing: what you get you will have to earn and nothing is for nothing. I got this from all these sides of my family. Thanks for preserving what is human ethics: you should be mainstream!

Going without is a trial by fire that every soul needs. We are born naked and if we become so that we aren't happy with what we need we will die unhappy. Balance between what we need and what we want brings things around full circle and allows for appreciation.

I’m going through a unemployment right now after quitting a job I wasn’t happy with. I’ve reached the end of my savings and missed a credit card payment. The other night not long after the missed payment I had a dream I spent time with an elder woman who was so skinny yet I could feel she was powerful. I thought she was an ancestor but now I’m pretty sure I got a warning from lady poverty. And the wind just picked up outside as I typed this, going to act right now lol. I say this with trepidation, because history has given harsh lessons to those who gather when others put them apart. The nation of my birth needs help. Our government has been decaying with a lack of maintenance. Oversight is failing, money is louder than pain, and anger is used as the main tool of decision making. We need the two senators that each first people's nation would bring with them in their statehood.

I listen to your videos and your great struggle to communicate from your language and beliefs of such beauty and wonder and greatness. From a culture of such nobility and honor to a culture that only knows greed and hatred and bigotry and destruction. What you teach requires a heart, a mind that is open to that greatness and wonder that is beyond understanding, that is beyond everything we can imagine. Please continue your struggle for it is what we need!

This being said I would like to point out a channel and specific video created by Joseph Campbell called "The Guardians of the four directions" that I would love for you each at the Navajo Institute of education to see. I would love your interpretation and insights, as they are always an honor to receive with open ears! Blessings be upon you each🙏💛🌄much love

You know why we told that? Because that when the US CALVARY would attack. So were told to up before sun rise and be ready and awake so we can run to the nearest canyon or hill , mountain if we want to see another day. That is why we run in the morning to be able to out run a horse. And the reason why it was be done in the morning is so we breath the good clean crisp air of the morning to open up our lungs. But every few of us do it today. And it should be done still if you want to see old age and meet it while still standing tall. Another great lesson Grampa to live by. Be safe and walk in Harmony and balance also in beauty

So Wally, if I asked you if you think all the federal welfare was good for native americans what would you say? I'm a local and remember being on the white mountain res as a little kid. We seen a neighborhood that were a bunch of section 8 houses that were trashed. The windows were busted out and animals were living in them and the yards were full of busted down vehicles. I asked my stepdad why that neighborhood was like that and he said the government gave them those houses and vehicles for free. I said why don't they take care of the houses or fix the vehicles? He said because they didn't pay for it and expected another vehicle every few years. That was an experience that started to shape my understanding and grow my disliking of socialism.
